I was wondering because I have seen people use just the aluminum spinner nut and then I have seen people use the stock nut with the spinner nut on top of that. What do you think??

I just use the spinner nut. Sometimes I have to use the prop washer to take up enough slack so I can get a screwdriver thru the hole to get it tight, but on a 4 stroke, not having a jam nut can cost you the whole shebang if you backfire and throw the prop. Been there, done that.

I use the spinner nut and stock prop nut in tandem on all my engines if there's enough thread (more than 1/4 inch) as I've had lousy luck with the plastic spinners. They act as a jamnut and I have fewer problems with the prop coming loose when I pop the electric starter on it.
The only exception I've found thus far has been my Super Tigre .51 as there's only just enough room for the prop, outer washer and stock prop nut. If I need some nose weight on that plane ever, I'll just put one of the brass spinners in place of the stock nut I suppose...

Prop nut
Another option is to buy a lock nut from Harry Higley. It was meant to be used with a spinner nut. Very thin so it doesn't take much room. Many sizes come in aluminum or brass. Used it on a Saito 1.50-never had a loose prop even with a backfire.
