Default OMP Edge and Engine combo?

I am thinking about getting an OMP Edge Fun Fly and putting a OS 50SX on it. I am wondering what you all think about this plane engine combo and the 50 SX in general. Thanks for the input

Perfect combo. I have one with an Irvine .53 and it's great. The OS should be fine. The OMP is the best flying plane I've ever had in over 15 years of flying.

I agree the OMP edge is AWESOME I am in the process of building my second one now. I have a OS 46 FX as well as a great many others with very good results. So if the 50SX is just as reliable then it should be even better !!!

How will it do with OS 46 FX? Climb out of hover?

A 46FX is more than enough for this bird. A 50sx is overkill. If you are low on funds put a TT.46pro on it. Don't spend $150 on a not needed motor.

A 50 overkill.... What does that make my saito 72. I love the blast out of a hover. Just to let anyone interested know I just bought a magnum xls 52 from hobby people for 99 bucks shipped. a flying buddy (capthis) has one on his profile and it has fantastic power, reminds me of my old irvine 53. I have been very happy with a new magnum 91 xls I bought. for 99 bucks it looks like a heck of a buy. I am going to put it on my edge to try out after a few break in tanks.

My omp has a tt 46 with a mousse can muffler on it and it hovers at less than half power.

that is more than enough motor, I would bet a dollar it would hover with a 32sx and mousecan. I have seen them hover with a 46la and a 40sf! Course, building it light helps the motor!

I fly mine with a Pico .45. Hovers at less than 1/2 throttle with that awesome 12.25X3.75 prop.

Has anyone flown the FF540 with a Magnum .61 Four Stroke? How about a CG Extreme 330 or Morris Sledge?

way too much motor, get into too much weight too. I mean, if a 40SF will hover it, why have such a heavy motor on front??

I agree OMPEdgeFLyer, I had a mvvs .49 on mine then went to a os .46fx and can still hover less than 1/2 throttle, a .40 fx would fly it fine as a matter of fact I'm putting .40fx on my SLEDGE. The SECRET is how to get the performance out of the motor, I use a Macs header and a .25 to .32 size Macs tuned pipe (smaller tuned pipe for more torque) which gives more back pressure allowing for lower idle and a huge low end power increase, and instant response from the throttle , no waiting for it to spool up the prop.

I am not talking about the two-stroke .61 but the Magnum .61 Four-Stroke. This engine weighs only 15.5oz with muffler - less that the 40SF that I am putting on my Sledge that is being built now. From what I have heard and read (not seen), this motor seems to be a good four-stroke for the price. I just wanted to make sure they would have enough power for good 3d and hovering.

CVFD,

I think it would be a great choice then, that way you can swing that bigger wood(or plasitc) and really bite some air. Your OMP bird will love that.

foxbat22003 : They are testing it now. I talked to them last weekend(I live 10 minutes from the guys house) and he said the arf is doing great and is nice and light. They want to get fair number built ahead though. I hope soon too.
