After the Pro-Bro chat on tuesday I was really turned on to the idea of an indoor machine. And since we have a forecast for -50 this weekend and it was 0 today. Indooor flying is looking REAL GOOD.
Now then it would seem that the 3DX is a good airplane to get so I will need recomendations from you guys. I know there is an electric forum but I figure most of you are also there.
Here is what I am looking for.
1. Shipping is time consuming and expensive so if I can get the materials locally then all the better.
2. I am open for all recomendations as to onboard gear (ie Dream setup)
3. It has to be a stable hovering machine as I have limited indoor space. (when my hanger is full of airplanes)
4. It has to look cool. yeah.
I hope this can get rid of some of the winter blues.

All of the planes from www.faomyfactory.com are great indoor3d planes. I run a razor 350 on 3 etec 1200s and it gives me a thrust to weight of around 2:1. Razors are hard to come by, but the Himaxes are a close match. check http://www.stevensaero.com/e-flight.html for the himax motor/gear box combos.

I don't think you can beat Tim's Ultimate for rediculous indoor fun, big and draggy, it doesn't fly fast but has more than enough power for indoor with the stock setup.

The more I look the more confused I get !!!!! It is hard trying to figure out E-Flight without being able to see or touch the stuff. And I thought I knew a lot about RC aircraft.
Nobody said it would be easy being on the cutting edge.

Lomcevek1,
I just went through what you are about to go through. I've been flying RC for nearly 34 years, but felt absolutely lost when it came to electric planes....and especially electric 3D planes.
After reading through what seemed like thousands of posts on RCU and RCGROUPS, I decided to build a 3DX from Tim's Foamy Factory plans. Here's what I ended up with:
I used FanFold foam because Depron was sold out.
Covered with colored packing tape.
Castle Creations Pixie 20p controller.
GWS EPS 350c with D gearing.
GWS 12x6 and 11x4.7 props.
GWS Pico 4 channel rx.
Blue Bird BMS-306 servos.
E-Tec 1200 3s1p lipo.
Weighs 12.75 ounces.
Has a "prop saver" based on Y-Sekiai's design.
I finally got to test fly my 3DX today. It flys better than I expected, but I haven't tried "normal" flight yet, just 3D hovering, torque rolling, harriering, and some harrier rolls.
My only regret it that I should have gone ahead and started out with a brushless motor.

Now I have finished mine Edge 540 Profile. I've been building ARFS and kits for other guys, so I didn't have time to give myself one. Not any more
. Now I need some daylight, quiet park and no wind. Let's see with my own hands what that baby can do.
It's "Depron Edge 540 3D Profile ARF" I was building for guys. Now I have updated building instruction with more details and some pictures (the building instruction is here: [link=http://masm.inc.home.comcast.net/kit/edge_arf.pdf]http://masm.inc.home.comcast.net/kit/edge_arf.pdf[/link])
My setup is:
- RAZOR 300 on GWS C (5.33:1) with 10x4.7 GWS prop
- Phoenix 25A ESC
- 3s 750 LiPo
- GWS pico receiver
- 2 x BMS 371 (Blue Bird) on rudder and elevator
- 2 x CS 6.2 (Cirrus) on ailerons with Y-connector
Ready to flight weight = 11.5 oz (on my kitchen scale)
I was checking the motor, and the RAZOR is awesome. I got 1:1 thrust to weight ration on 1/4 throttle! I can't wait to fly my baby.
Sorry for the quality of the following pictures, but the flash in my digital camera doesn't work any more[>:]
