Well, my OMP Edge (in my avatar) bought it this weekend, (sigh). The plane taught me all the 3D I know and was like a favorite old t-shirt that just gets worn more than most.
It went in like a good soldier. I have been working on low harriers, flying a figure 8 getting the turns down. Friday afternoon I was working this in a little wind. The wind got under a wing on the belly-in turn and I cross-f*$*ed it trying to correct, stupid. I was very low (tail less than 1ft up) but what happened next was sad. My screwed up rudder/throttle input caused the plane to look like someone grabbed it by the spinner and slung it overhead in an arc, elevator first into the ground, hard. The fuse shattered, lots of little pieces still stuck to covering. Not your typical ‘broke behind the wing’, even the front broke off the wing.
But it went in helping me push my lame-a@@ 3D skills a little further and will surely pass on to 3D Valhalla. I immediately fired up the KatanaP and did some hovering just to climb back on that horse.
Pictures tonight.

oh, man! sad to hear it! but hey, now you got an excuse to get a NEW plane! how about a burrito? or one of the new omp's? I am a believer in the c.f. rod construction method now, it'll keep the nose on. think you will have another flyin by nashville? see you then, w.f.

Sad to see her go I'm sure Jim. In every 3D life a little balsa must fall[

Here's the carnage, notice the one piece of the fuse still attached to the wing. It was really a strange crash. Almost no ground velocity or altitude, but somehow I managed to generate a high speed rotation around the nose, stupid thumbs.
Replacement, don't know. Just got all the parts to finish up my first profile foamy so funds are low. Got one of the new Himaxx blue gearbox setups to put on it. Want to get it done so I can 3D during lunch at work, daily flying.
The EF Edge is promising but I might have to have another OMP Edge. Maybe both? I have a nicely broken in and tuned Saito 72 that will need a home somewhere.

Bummer dude - I know you learned a lot with that plane.
But seriously, like Paul said, it can be fixed... The wing and tail look good, maybe you could just build a new fuse for it? A foam-core fuse would be pretty easy too. And if you don't think it's worth fixing..... send it to me!

On inspection the wing is basically sound. The fuse has been broken and patched before and I gained some weight then. It's in 3 distinct pieces now and the breaks are ugly. Could it be repaired, probably, especially by Dr. Swany, but I don't know how much weight it will gain. The new fuse idea is probably gonna happen. I don't want a 5+lb bird, I could just go buy a Goldberg profile and get that[X(]
Need to check with OMP and see if they would just sell me a foam core fuse kit. The purely stick built fuse took longer than the wing to build, almost nothing pre-cut, lots of fitting.

Hey Jim, what color of Red is that and whose covering? It maybe the lighting ... but I love that color. Maybe use that on one of of the ARF's coming.

Damn Jim, I just saw that plane in Cookeville didn't I ? Hate to see one go down... Glad to hear you're considering fixing it. After seeing some of the things Pauly says are easy to fix, that looks like a minor dent lol. Lookin forward to seeing ya at Tex or Nash with it.
