Did not notice an increase in vibration to the control surfaces compared to the Moki 2.10. On first blush the BME does not seem to tax the airframe as I use the power for 3D manuevers not speed. Happy so Far...

I was certainly hoping to get some lighter gear for this plane. If you can make it within the next two months or so, I would buy a set.
It will take me at least that long to build the kit. I need to make a decision about the gear before I mount the engine so I can balance the plane. I'm not quite sure whether the engine could be moved forward enough to balance the plane with a lighter set of gear. I guess the only way to know for sure is to try a set.

crazy legs
I say yeah...just got my Edge today and first thing I did was weigh the legs...about 11 1/2 oz's If the glass ones came out to half that it would be worth it IMO. How much??

Can't help it
People are putting motors that are way over powering for the GS.
Making the airplane almost 2lbs heavier doing so
Now want to put a lighter weaker gear
Makes alot of sense to me

Randy...OMP gave the example setup with a 1.8 RCS gas engine....3 1/4 lbs My BMe 44 weighs 3 1/4 lbs with muffler/wo ignition and batt. Where is the two pounds difference between your example and mine? maybe 1/4 lb but not 2 lbs. So if you think gas is a bad choice what do you think of a MDS 2.18? I dont know the weight but cheaper than a Moki. Just some thoughts...
Ron PS...lighter gear but not weaker is the plan

I have one and I feel Randy is quite right
put a 160 or 210 moki and you will be happy
3d requires the lightest air frame
a us41 is just a cinder block and on a good day will not even come close to the rpm a moki turns in MHO

The US41 would be nice to have along when you go fishing as a boat anchor...all seriousness aside it and the US35 weigh in at 4 1/2 lbs and nowhere near the power of a Brison, BME or ZDZ. My 3 cents

I happened to see the weight of a Moki 2.10 at 46oz. Dont know if that is with muffler but thats almost 3 lbs...only about 8oz lighter than the BME44. I dont really think you'll see a big difference in flight performance with that weight difference. Also the big Moki will require a large fuel tank, with the BME I can use a smaller tank and save a little more weight. I'll bring a gallon of gas to the field ($1.67 a gal) and you bring a gal of glow fuel for your Moki ($13 to 15.00 gal) After about 8 to 10 flights you'll be spending another 15.00 for fuel. If this was a air show only flying plane the fuel expence would not be an issue but for a funfly plane which I intend on flying often....ok ok yadda yadda I'll stop now.

Flew it Yesterday
I finally got a day with 5 mph wind and flew my GS540. Outstanding!! It takes off in a short distance and handles great. The Moki 210 barely huffed and my Edge was going vertical. That's a great power combo and it sips fuel because I can fly it at less than half throttle easily. I had a piezo gyro laying in the desk drawer and plugged it into the rudder to see what would happen during hover. Don't waste your time installing one. The GS540 hovers just as well without it! Rock steady and ton's of vertical with the Moki. It does neat waterfalls and pretty much anything I wanted it to. I adjusted my CG so I didn't have to use down input when inverted. If you haven't see docwatson's video, check it out. The GS540's land at a crawl and will decend vertically to a landing in a 15 mph wind. I'm really happy and hope to enjoy it for a long time!

GS540P with a Brison 40CC
I had my fourth flight with Brison 40 cc powered GS540P. It fllies great other than some strange trim problems. Weight is 13 lbs.
I have sent pictures of the plane and engine installation to OMP.
Trim problem is most likely an engine thrust line effect caused by the vertical CG offset ( CG is lower with inverted heavy gas engine) Plane acts like it need up-thrust. Plane descends at high throttle and ascends at low throttle. I will experiment with engine thrust line adjustments and let you know how it pans out.

I got great news guys, the CF gear for this that SFComposites is making will be ready in about 3-4 days. Colors are Red/Black and black/black. The Blue and black ones will be about 2 weeks.

Ross Airforce, I think you're exactly right about the up-thrust. A little more upthrust and you should be fine.
Could you show some upclose pics of your engine installation - maybe two or three views?
By the way, the plane looks great!
