Default Flip 3D shipped

Just got an email from Tower that my Kyosho Flip 3D has shipped.

Anybody else received their shipping notice ? I still see that Tower has them marked as available as of late November. Maybe I was lucky and got some out of the first shipment. I had mine on backorder since August

Will be powered by a OS 50SX !

Men, I really have to speed up and finish my Showflyer (should be done and ready to fly early next week).

After I read your post I called my LHS (Venture) and no luck, but I needed to go anyways. Surprise I've got mine and man is it cool. The Ailerons are huge, (I fact so big I might use a larger servo than normal). The clear covering is awesome.

For the engine I'm thinking OS 50 (like you), Saito 72 or YS 63. I have not tried a YS and this may be a good time. With the servo location I'm not thrilled with the OS 50 only do to the oil running down the fuse.

Radio is another story. I was thinking I would just be using normal, (Hitec 425 for me), servos. Than I saw the ailerons and elevator. The ailerons are huge, like I said before. They are also thick, maybe 1/2", which means mass, (think heavy). This is a plane were flutter may be a real problem I'm thinking. I will seal the control surface and make sure the linkages are extra tight. I also need to better understand prevent flutter through control linkage setup.

Do the ugly color squigly things come on it or are they stickers? If they are sticker, cool plane! If not cool plane with ugly color squiglly things printed on it. I hope they are stickers! ---Mike

Default keep us posted!

I placed my order in mid Sept.. At that time, I had ordered an MVVS .77 w/ mini tuned silencer for the Flip. Well, I called Tower early this week only to hear the same answer, "early November, early November" So, I got so sick of waiting :tired: , I canceled the Flip on Tues. and ordered a Diablotin Super FG ($100.00 more). I hope I haven't made a big mistake!

Here is the rudder.

The manual is rough at best, it's a ARF so it will not matter.

The stab is reinforced with some kind of wire (flexable) for flying wires. I only had time to browse the manual.

This is my concern area, the ailerons, 6" at the fuse, 4" at the tip.

And here is the thickness, over 1/2". Maybe I should not worry but it seems like standard servos might not be enough.

Looks good to me...I want one.

Seems odd they didn't cover the root of the aileron..

After reading on another thread, I am know wondering if the OS 50SX will be enough. Maybe I will have to go with a 60 or 70 two stroke on this one also. It needs to be able to pull out of a hover with authority.
Ken, have you weight the parts yet ?

Well the squigly colors look much better than the Tower ad. Kinda cool! How much does this thing weigh? I would think the 50sx would have more than enough power? ---Mike

Default Kyosho flip-3d

I own this superb plane since april this year and I only can say it's the best there is.

I saw different concerns about the power and the type of servo to be used.
My version is powered by a OS Max 50 sx and a 13.75 x 3.25 APC prop.
This combination is powerful enough to fly to the moon.

About the servo's. Yes the rudder is quite large, but standard servo's can be used. I use futuba 3003 servo's the cheapest around and after 62! flights still tight.

Don't overpower this plane, the engineering is superb, the weight very low (2.1Kg with engine) and flying a breeze.

Assembly tips.. hmm

Yes one thing, After the first test flight I did notice a awful resonating noise.
The large and thick wing will resonate with the engine and produce a powerful sound
Just tap on the surface and hear the drums <grin>

Mount the engine on rubbers or a hydro-mount and the problem will disappear.

Grt and happy flying!
