Default tower fun 51 for 3d

Hey, I'm about to start building a fun 51 profile, and would like some advice on the build. I've read about strenghthening the fuselage and the landing gear area, but what else does it need? Does it need extra control surfaces, if so how much? I know it probably wont be a serious 3D'er, but I would like to be able to practice hovering and harriers and stuff. Thanks, Devin

I would say enlarge the rudder surface area by 50 percent. The elevator and ailerons are fine.

I really liked my Extra Special / Fun 51. It may not be as good for hovering as some modern profiles, but it was a great airplane. The fuse on mine broke just in front of the wing after several hundred bad landings.

I really don't think you can 3D with the F-51. I couldn't with the Tower Extra Special (same thing). It is way too short coupled. But it is a fun snap rolling plane that can be tossed around.

thanks for the comments. I'm not really expecting great 3d, but I would like to hover it at least. Any other comments one the controls surfaces? Thanks, Devin

Fly it try it, and while you are doing that build a MOJO. If you want to hover you will want to do more. Your plane should be able to hover but you will have to johnny lightning on the sticks to get it to balance without falling out. Also after it falls out even if you enlarge the controls it wont be able to recover.

Seriously I think you might want a better airplane if your are even remotely interested in 3D flight.
