Gas tank mounting on a profile
I'm just finishing off my Spinsation and was wondering what you profile flyers think is the best way to secure the gas tank on the fuse? I've seen them with multiple rubber bands around them but what do you hook the rubber bands to? The fuse is basically hollow where it's supposed to go so screws won't hold. The instructions indicate where it goes but does not say how to mount it.

RE: Gas tank mounting on a profile
I'm doing the same thing on my Top Cap because I'd rather have it outside of the wing. I'm going to use .047 music wire bent into two large "staples" (just wide enough to clear the tank top and bottom and the foam rubber), and inserted into 1/16 inch holes above and below the tank. Once inserted, the ends of the staples will be bent into opposing hooks to secure the rubber bands to. One staple at the front of the tank and one at the back. Unfortunately, doing this with the stock tank will put the tank centerline well above the carb spraybar. How much above is too much? Will I have to mess with clamps and such to avoid flooding? Maybe I'll see if I can find a tank with a more centrally located supply fitting.

That staple mounting sounds like a viable opportunity for me. They say copying someone's invention is the highest honor.
Are these staples destined to be inserted on the opposite side of the gas tank?

put holes in the fuselage at the top and bottom of the tank location....
then use big zip ties around the tank and through the fuse...
with a piece of foam between the tank and fuse
see here for an example

Go to your local hardware store and get a pack of small metal hooks that are threaded like a wood screw on the end... A pack of 10 are like $2.00... Then just screw 4 of them into the side of your slab on the 4 corners where the tank is going to sit... Put some foam rubber on the back of the tank where it will rest on the slab and hook rubber bands over the tank and attach to the hooks... Change the rubber bands every 15 - 20 flights...
Zip ties are ok, but if they are too tight, you can get excess vibration in the tank and fuel foaming, which is a no-no...

If you go with the music wire solution, then yes the big staples are inserted from the side opposite the gas tank, then the ends are bent to opposing hook shapes. Lots of of other solutions presented here so pick whatever one will work best for your bird.

probably close to 200 flights with the zip ties..... really they work....
ask any OMP profile owner.....
over-engineer if you will...... but hey....it is your profile

Well, since you put it that way... This OMP profile owner had a fuel foaming problem when using zip ties... Switched to rubber bands and the problem went away... viola!!!

EXPO
just my two cents,i have a OMP 65" YAK with a YS 110, never had fuel foaming, and never had the two zip ties break, at lease 100 flights, with a couple hard landings, that broke fuselage inhalf, got to luv profiles

Personally I do the little brass self tap hook thing with rubber bands. Has worked for me for 8 years now but has one disadvantage. The rubber bands needs to be replaced every 6 or so months as fuel kinda get at em. But other than that its a flawless method.

I drill holes on each side of the tank at front and rear to accommodate a length of inner pushrod (Sullivan flexible splined works well). Make each length of pushrod long enough to fit around the tank and through the fuse. Then install servo mount screws (I like the type with socket heads) in both ends of each pushrod and snug your tank down. Kind of like the staple idea from the earlier post but easier to adjust, IMHO. Haven't changed one in three years. Rubber bands work fine too; this is just a little neater.
