Plane for Saito .91
I am looking for a profile plane for a saito .91 that I have laying around. I want to have great power out of hovers and vertical lines. Any suggestions???

No question, order a Mojo 60 from www.swanyshouse.com. They are easy to build, very tough and great fliers. I have the Saito 91 on mine with a 15x4w and 30% CP fuel. It is tons of power for this plane. It will weigh about 5.5 lbs dry with a 91.

There are several planes which would make good candidates for that engine including the 60 mojo. Others include the new two-piece wing Katana 70 V2 from OMP and the Ultimate Biplane from OMP. Both will weigh slightly over 6 lbs and perform very well with that engine. The Kat 70 is an ARF and the Ultimate is a kit.

He had the motor on the .40 sized OMP Yak. Beleive it or not it took the weight well. Unfortunatly, we had a hit on the radio and its no longer with us (I was flying at the time). Would the 60 sized yak be too heavy for the .91??

The Kat 70 Mike is talking about should be good. I think there is a thread in the OMP section all about it. Two piece wing etc.... Take a look at that. Or put the 91 on a 40 size Mojo ARF. [sm=biggrin.gif] Iowa's right about the 65" Yak. It needs more engine. I think OMP is out of stock on the 65" Yak anyway.

RE: Plane for Saito .91
I don't know how the Kat70 compares to the Kat 40 but my Mojo60 blows my Kat40 away in terms of making 3D stuff easy.
The Saito 91 would be a *perfect* match for this airframe. I've got an SA100 in mine and it's way over-powered, but lots of fun!
After just a few flights I'm already doing stuff that was *hard* with the Kat -- rolling harriers for example. And this bird will hover almost hands-off.
It makes all my other profiles feel loose and squirelly by comparison -- not that I've flown any of them since madening the Mojo :-)

RE: Plane for Saito .91
southern_touch9: Well regardless if it had to be an ARF or a kit I would definitely put my money on the Katana 70 V2 ARF from TMPro/OMP! The look of the mojo just doesn't do anything for me but yea neither does the look of Charlize Theron. Aren't we glad we all have different tastes and stuff? Apparently it flies great but I will guarentee the Katana flies great! I have not found anything it can't do well. Most rock solid knife edge spins you've ever seen! Smoothest and easiest rolling harriers of anything I've flown! (Yes that includes a H9 33% Edge) You just can't go wrong with the big kat and that motor should do it justice just fine!
XJet: I'm sure the Kat70 will blow away the Kat40 too. The size does really make a huge difference in these things. The .40 sized profiles do feel much looser in the air and that's why it's a little harder doing rolling harriers DOD with them. Everything happens a little faster so you gotta stay a little more ahead and well room for error is less. Sometimes I like the fast pace of the smaller stuff though as the fun factor is much more. The wow factor on the big things are of course more as they do make you look like a more accomplished pilot but the whole shoving sticks in corners and making a plane look like it's on drugs are fun too.

Oh I dont doubt the Kat 70 is a great flier. I have the .40 size and dont really conceive how any plane could blow it away. I have been to meets where other guys are flying mojo .60's and after watching me fly my Kat .40 they cant beleive how well it seems to fly. I have it rigged with all of the goodies Hitech 225's (I wouldnt advise doing if I did it again), duralite batteries, and a honkin saito .72.

What equipment you put in a plane and who's thumbs are on the sticks also makes a huge difference! take an average 40 size profile and put high end digitals and you have a whole new airplane. take a known top performer, put sloppy servos in and a crappy engine and you have dogmeat. Just some words or wisdom for those making comparisons. Personally I do not recommend putting a Saito 91 or bigger engine on a 40 size plane. If you need that much power on a 4 1/2 lb plane then you are compensating for something else. As far as ARFs for the Saito 91, the only choice is the Kat 70. 65" Yak requires a bit more engine like mentioned above.

RE: Plane for Saito .91
I dont know about the whoe compensating thing...Like I said its not my plane However when you think about it in terms of power to weight it makes sense. The saito .91 doesnt weight but a 1.9 oz. more than the saito .72. I dont know the weight on the Y.S. .63 but Im willing to bet its an even smaller gap in oz. and you guys sell that as a combo on the web site. I mean 1.9 oz is minor, its the weight of 1 servo, that kind of difference could come up simply by who builds the airplane.
Now with that said I am all about keeping the weight down (as mentioned before not my plane not my choice of motor). A little FYI, my Hybrid is getting closer to ready. I was going to cover it myself but I got as far as the wings. I am going to let my builder do the rest of it. I ordered the 5955 Hitechs today, and the Li-ion System from Fromeco 1-4800 for the RX and 1-2400 for the ignition. The DA-50 is ready for install. All that is left to buy is the CF wing tube and CF tail wheel.

RE: Plane for Saito .91
straight from the good ol RCU archive
http://www.rcuniverse.com/product_gu...inecompare.cfm
However, horizon has it listed as a 3.6 oz. difference. Anyhow, I have flown the .40 sized Yak with the .91 and it flies great. A shade heavier than I like (remember I own nothing that doesnt weigh less than stock weight). But the avg. 3D guy who flys once a week isnt going to tell a difference.

southern_touch9,
Check out the TOC Aviation Yak Pro, great plane, just right for that .91! Nicest ARF I ever bought!
