Default Fazer

Here's the new Fazer:

Ailerons are slightly enlarged, H-stab/elevator is slightly enlarged and re-designed with balance tabs and opened up to 45 deg. of rudder throw, rudder is greatly enlarged.

I also built up my own fuse for it. Instead of the stock 1/2" solid balsa fuse, I built it up with 3/8 sq. and 1/4x3/8 balsa, and 1/4x3/8 spruce for servo rails and a couple longerons for strength. Moving the servos to the tail eliminated the Fazer's nose-heaviness with the 46-class engines. End result: EXACTLY the same weight as the solid balsa fuse. To the tenth of an ounce. *sigh* Some weight savings did come, however, in being able to use 1/16 ply for the fuse doublers instead of the heavy 1/8 ply that came with the kit, since my fuselage was inherently stronger, and needed less reinforcement. Also put flying wires on the tail.

If I could hover, I'm sure it would do it quite nicely with the GMS .47 on the nose. Takeoff roll with a 12/4 prop is about 3 feet, and it goes straight up like a rocket at full bore. Was practicing some knife-edge today. It'll almost knife-edge loop, just doesn't have quite enough rudder throw to bring it out from the vertical downline. I can increase it a little more, hopefully that'll do the trick.

thats the best looking fazer I have ever seen. The fuse is too short(hieght) thats why it doesnt knife loop like it should. so what was the final weight on it. Ive had a couple of fazers but they had .32 in them. good job.

Thanks I don't have an AUW on it. Wish I did, I'm curious myself. When I checked the fuselages, I just took 'em over to the deli dept. in the grocery store and had them weigh them on a digital scale. They'd prolly freak if I brought the whole plane in...

I'd like to build another one at some point and put a 32 in it to see how it does with the much lighter engine. That's about 8 projects down the road though..

Default Done building .40 siize funfly planes!

I think I've built my last .40 size funfly plane, well, untill I forget that I made this statement. I will probably build funfly planes for .40 size 2-strokes or .53/.63 size 4-strokes though, but it will be enlarged .40 size planes. I think I can build an enlarged Aerone (60" wingspan) which will weight the same as the stock Aeron. Since the whole hardware-electronics-engine package weighs the same, the wing loading will be significantly reduced, for a much more fun plane. My Aeron came oout a little heay for my taste, it flyes great, does some funky stuff in the air, some times extremely fast waterfalls, and with the not very light wing loading, it is very easy to land. Much of its ability in the air, I think, comes from my +/- 70-80 degree throws on basically all controll sufaces, plus its SHORT tail moment and thick wing. I do think however, that I could build a 20% larger Aeron, that would weigh the same in the bones. This means that I could have a 60" wingspan Aeron, with a YS53 on the nose, weighing about 4.5-5 lbs., now that would be funny.
After flying larger planes (Morris .60SuDoKhoi, S2G Extase and Great Planes UCD3D), I realise how much better the larger planes behave in the air (read Reynolds number here). Well, just my humble opinnion about this crazy hobby he he.

Default DKJens- Been there - Done That!

DKJens - I built a larger version of the Aeron. It is a 65" wing span with removable wings (aluminum wing tube & sleeves). I increased the width of the fuse to accommodate the elevator and Rudder servos in the tail section. I am posting a couple of pics for you. - Kevin

Default Edge

Nice you like it Phil.

Specs:
Span: 121cm(48")
Engine: OS 46fx prop: Apc 12.25*3.75
Weight: eh :spinnyeye , havent weighted it yet, though I have flyed it the hole summer, but near 1,6-1,7kg(~3,7pound) is not far from correct.
And the wing is rectangle and, only ailerons are taper.
UC was veneer plywood, now they are pianowire.
Radios are Futaba(fast mini hitec on trhottle)

Im planning to draw the drawings in to cad mode some day.

Default Weston UK Cougar 2000

This is my Weston UK Cougar 2000 powered by OS 46 FX with 12.25 x 3.75, hovers on less than half throttle. One of the best fun-flys available in the UK at the moment.

Default Lets See Some Fun Fly Plane Pics

Thanks Paulswany! I don't have the exact weight, but I think mine would be a little heavier than average. I tend to build a little extra strong. I noticed a post on a NG where a guy with a Sudo had been flying it for a while and he said it was developing stress cracks right behind the wing. I had my fuse done already so I laminated a strip of thin ply right behind the wing going almost to the tail. If you look close at my TE in the pic you can see where the covering is bulged a bit from the ply. My plane held up great this summer. The only thing I don't like about it is the small gas tank. I usually end up having so much fun that I don't want to stop flying to refuel. So the only hard landings it has had have been from the air in the gas tank displacing the fuel hehehe. It had a pretty good cartwheel from this the other day (very funny!) and held up fine. I also noticed a comment about the Sudokhoi where the guy said "every time I go to the field, my Sudokhoi goes". I feel the same way now!

Default My scratch built foamie

This is a pic of my scratch built foamie "Chicken Boy"

He has a fuse made from the foam trays of Tyson chicken thighs and the symetrical wing is or hamburger trays with a spruce main and bass rear spar.

Aileron and elevator only with a speed 300/350 power drive electric in it.

Handle like a tiny P-47 with a slow climb out and blistering dives. Rolls 2/second and will loop in about 8'!
