I have a CMP GILES 202 3D 40-46 size. I have put an OS 50 SX in it. Total weight, without fuel is, 2100g. I fly at sea level, in 20-30 degrees celcius, using 5% nitro fuel. What sort of performance can I expect, and what prop would be best?
Thanks for the info

Hi Greg,
At a guess I reckon it will prop hang with the 50SX at around half throttle! That motor will give you LOADS of power. As far as props go I'd start with a APC 12x4 and see how you like it.

A good rule of thumb I use is a 5.0 lb plane dry is the max for a strong .46 like the FX (with Tower Muffler). This combo is great.
You have a strong .50 on a 4.6 lb plane so it should be a rocket

Thanks Andy, I'll try a 12x4. What about a 12.25x3.75?
3D_Flyer, our temps here on the west coast have been no where neer as hot as those on the east coast lately. The only problem is our howling southerlies almost every day without fail. It's not much fun flying a 4 pound plane in 30 knot winds. But at least we know we can do it.

Hi Greg,
Yeah its worth a try with the 12.25x3.75 and worth a go with 11x4, and 11x5 too just to make sure. Still reckon the 12x4 will be best though......You could try wooden (Zinger here in UK) as the spool up is slightly quicker than APC. Only problem is they're very fragile. When I was learning to hover I bought my LHS out of 11x4 Zinger props in less than a week!

Andy,
I buy the hobby store out of APC props in a day!
Greg, I would also recommend the APC 11.5x4. I only fly Thunder Tiger .46's, but they are not that far off from the .50 SX. My Pro .46's scream with that prop, but transition is a little slow. On your .50 SX it should be PERFECT! I would just go out and buy all the props mentioned here and try one after another in the air after you've gotten used to the airplane.
Please let us know how that airplane flies...

OS 50SX + APC 12x4 + Rossi Tuned pipe from Morris = Unbelievable rocket power
I don't think the 12.25x3.75 is a very good prop for the OS50sx. Doesn't spool up fast enough. Either 12x4 or 11.5x4 is the way to go.
A good exhaust combo for the 50 is also a Ultrathrust muffler. But nothing beats the screaming sound and power increase of a Rossi tuned pipe. AND YES it will be ok in the mid range of engine to.
Just my $0.02
