Pen Knife and Irvine 39...Good Combo?
I am going to get a Pen Knife and was wondering what engine to pair it with. I have considered the MVVS 21 and 28 and even a TT GP42 for an inexpensive alternative. What do you think? Also, I have 15% fuel. Is it OK for the Irvine or do thay require lower nitro fuel? Thanks,
Dan

I'd go with the Irvine .25. Plenty of power and lighter that the other motors you mentioned. You can run 15% nitro in the Irvine. I like 10% nitro with 20% oil. Let's the engine run cooler and more reliably.

The .39 has 1.3 HP while the .25 has .79. That is a big difference. As for weight, the .25 weighs 12.1 ounces and the .39 weighs 13.6 ounces. That's a 12.3% increase in weight for a 64.5% increase in power. That makes the .39 look pretty damn good. Don't you think?
Of couse, the .39 costs a few bucks more.
What do you think?

I still think you'll be happier with the .25. Don't put too much stock in those horse power numbers.... My buddy has a tt 36 on his taco (.25 size plane simular to the pen knife) and he says its too much....
Just my opinion... but I like to keep the weight down while still having plenty of power.... I think the .25 will be plenty...

If you could find one - I'll bet a Webra 28 would be the ultimate combination (9+ oz.'s with muffler). I've had one for X years and it is a jewel! It's in my PBF and is almost too much!!

I agree with Paul. Keep with the sub-30 powerplants for the Pen Knife. It's an ultra-light frame and a glut of power isn't required. I used an old 25 FSR ABC with excellent results (pulled it easily out of hovers)... the OS 32 was almost too much.. I never used full throttle.

I think the sub 30 MMVSs might be perfect, eh?
I would like to try an MVVS. I have never used one (or even seen one used now that I think about it) and would like to try one. I reckon the .28 would be perfect. Anyway, I am going to order the kit and start it before I decide on the engine.
