After several hundred threads about the knife I had to get one to see what all the fuss was about. I ordered the ARF version. I found even with my setup the plane is still under 5 pounds! I really did not try any weight saving ideas I've read on here.
My knife has: 4 Hitec 605
1 Hitec 81
1650 NiMH 5 cell battery
OS SX 50 with Ultrathrust muffler
Dubro "fiber" landing gear
Heavy duty switch
GreatPlanes 6oz fuel tank
The ARF weighs 4lbs 12 oz. It fly's as well as all the threads on here state it will. My flying buddy has a Top CAP ARF and he is also under 5 pounds.
I guess I need to thank all the writers who have praised the Knife I would not have bought one otherwise.

man where are you guys weighing these ARF's at?...the moon?
maybe you both got lucky and got some that were made with light stock, anyway a ARF under 5lb with the package you described is great....G

My knife ARF, weighs 5lb 4oz, with all standard BB servos and 1100mh nicad batttery.

It would be great to come out at 4lb 12oz.

Maybe something has changed. Maybe balsa is going in there instead of lite ply. I bet she KEs well. My 5.4 lbs Knife KEs but I have to have some good power in there. The GWB will KE at just above an idle.

5 - Futaba 3004 servos
1100mah Nicad

All at 4lbs 3oz.


I'm getting ready to build another one. I sold it and wish I never did.

Hey Wreck! I wanted to let you fly my Knife just to get an idea what difference you could tell between the kit and the arf. After several flights with the Knife I'm sure it's the most fun plane I have now. I'm covering my Sledge and will have a Saito 72 on it. So my most fun plane might change real quick!

I wanted to fly it too just to see how the ARF flew and how the OS50 performed compaired to the Saito.

I think I'm gonna order another Knife kit tomorrow...

All I did to my ARF was recover it.

JR 4131 high torque standard size servos

1100 4.8v Nicad

8oz tank

I used all the hardware that comes with the ARF.

Final weight was 4lbs 10oz

My knifeARF weighs 4.5 pounds with 600 MAH battery, jr610 micro reciever and mini digital 3421 servos. Also most of the people it seems are installing those Awful
tuned pipes that are also adding weight.
