Default Maiden Flight 80" OMP Edge 540

Well flew my 80" OMP Edge 540 Profile today for the first time. Flew fantastic no complaints. Inverted flight was straight and level. Well I do have only one complaint. The plane did not want to land it just wanted to keep floating. I had to force it to the ground. Is this because of the prop 18X10 APC? Was getting around 9030 RPM with OS 1.60FX using 10/20 Sig Fuel.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Where do you usually fly? My GS540 is a couple of weeks away from flying. Would like to see yours in action.

Default Prop Size Correction

I fly in Streator, IL about 45 miles Northwest of Bloomington. And the correct prop I talked about in my original post above was a 16X10 APC not a 18X10 APC. Yes Carl we could very easily get together to fly these birds. I'm always in your town shopping at Best Buy or Hobbyland and eating at Chile's or Outback Steakhouse. I also have the 40 size model covered just like the big one it has a YS 63 on the nose. If you are going to use the OS 1.60 make sure you mount it as far out on the nose as possible and I mean as far as possible or you will be adding additional nose weight to compensate.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Got at Moki 1.8 for mine with a Menz 18x8 prop for it. At the moment I'm having trouble getting it to fit on the shaft of the motor AND have a spinner as well. Looking into other options.

CG is looking about right with the setup I have now. 3 servos in the tail and Krazy Legs landing gear. I'm putting the throttle servo right behid the motor.

I see you guys are having a Fun--Fly on 6/22. Hope to make it up for that.

I keep an odd schedule, but give me a call (PM) if you're coming to Bloomington and maybe we can arrange to meet out at the SIRS field. I'm flying a Morris Knife at the moment until the 540 gets done. Speaking of which, the covering begins today.

Mike,

Try an APC 17 X 8 or better yet a Mejzlik 18 X 6

Default Prop

Ah yes, too much pitch Mike and this plane will want to keep flying unless you can get a really low idle. We've been using the ProZinger 18-6 and after trying many props, decided this is by far the best! Any decent 18-6 other than the "paint stick" style props will do you right.

I'm finishing mine up right now. and hope to test fly by the weeks end.

Question concerning prop choice. Isn't an 18 x 6 underpropping for the 1.60 FX. I have no experience with this engine and haven't even run mine yet. It's still Brand NEW. I'm putting a 20 x 6 zinger pro on mine.
