Default OMP 80" GS540 Wing Tube Problem

Anyone else had any problems with Wingtube warping on your 80" OMP Edge GS540. I noticed my right wing was going on hard so I checked the wing tube and it was warped.

Thanks,

Mike

Default OMP 80" GS540 Wing Tube Problem

I built two kits of this plane, that were bought several months apart. I noticed that one of the kits had a thicker wing tube than the other. The wall thickness of the tubing was different between the two. I built one for a buddy, and the other for myself. I kept the thicker tube because I know I will be rough on the plane. Maybe you had the thinner one and it just couldn't hold up? I know that the thicker wing tube prolly weighs a few ounces more but I feel it is justifiable weight!

Default Snazzy!

Wayne - nice covering job. I've not seen that design before - that's original! What are you guys using for engines? Anyone willing to sell me a copy of their plans? I'd love to build one of these but just am not willing to shell out the bucks for the kit. I prefer to scratch (much more affordable). Cheers

Default OMP 80" GS540 Wing Tube Problem

Hi Daryl,

The scheme was stolen from a friends 40% Carden Edge.
The OMPGS 540 plane isnt mine. It belongs to TheKat.
He flew it for the first time today and it flew really nice.
A little tailheavy but thats an easy fix.
Its gonna be a fun one.

I havnt talked to your brother in a long time. Tell Kelly I said hi.

Heres the Carden he copied.

Default Worth Saving!

Thanks for that image Wayne - I saved that one as a possible one to copy myself. Straight line simple graphics, yet striking and visible... a keeper. I talk to my brother once or twice a week - I'll pass on the Hello. He sure enjoyed the show you put on flying his Sig S.E. when you were up to Winterpeg for your visit. Cheers

That seems like a long time ago.....
It had to be '98 or '99

Default OMP 80" GS540 Wing Tube Problem

Mike,

Good seeing you today. After watching you snap the little 540 today, I may have some insight into your wing tube problem.

Karl

For more pics of that scheme, go to : down on the deck
(apparently, I can't post URL's here)

Default Wing Tube

I got a email from Ohio Models today stating they would send me a new wing tube. So hats off to Ohio Models. Karl's kit came with a .055 wall thickness tube and my kit came with a .035 wall thickness tube.

Thanks,

Mike
