Default Flaperon or Elevon???

Who uses what and why?

Just curious here, I can see advantages to both and wonder which would get used more to WOW a crowd or yourself for that matter?

Default Flaperon or Elevon???

Flaperons allow ailerons to move the same direction in unison as flaps or spoilers and independantly as ailerons. Elevons are used for delta wings where ailerons and elevator must be combined into two control surfaces.
E to F mix on radio will allow elevator and flaperons to work together for tighter loops and tumbling. Put it on a programmable switch. 100% elevator and start out at about 50% flaperon. Channel 2 master (elevator), channel 6 (flaps) slave.

Default Poll

ecaj,

the poll should be flapperons, spoilerons, or nothing.

I vote nothing. if you want to see what the OMP is capable of doing without any mixing, go to this website, but remove the spaces because there is software that will not allow a link to this website.(Long story) Click on the yellow OMP edge(like my avitar) about middle page to view video.

Why not both? I have the mixes set up on a 3 way switch, in the middle the elevator moves on its own, flip the switch up and the ailerons move up (and down" in unison with the elvator (elevator-->spoiler mix), flip the switch down, the ailerons move opposite the elevator (elevator-->flap mix)

I know you didn't give a choice for both in the poll, but that's how I've got it set up in the radio. Now in reality, I rarely use either mix, and just leave the switch in the center pretty much all the time. That's on my Extreme 330. On the U Can Do I run the ailerons in unison with the elevator (spoilers) for harriers, elevators, and walls.

David, I have my radio set just like yours with the exception, the up position is just spoilers, not spoilerons.

I thought the the dude wanted to know which if any helped the performance of the OMP edge, to that my answer is no. I think it is better without any mixes.

This is one of those preference things. I prefer none.

Default Flaperon or Elevon???

now we are getting somewhere.

spoileron for harrier's, elevators, and walls........

flaperons for what??? possibly a waterfall, and slow landings??

I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I am trying to learn things and make wise setups for what I might incorperate in a flying sequence.
So even though my wording was way off in the poll, you see now what I was hopein to gain here.

Jess
Very cool video, and I somehow dont think I will ever use the flaperons except to see what they do at 2 mistakes high just out of curiousity.

Default Flaperon or Elevon???

I agreee with Jess. IMHO the omp does fly better with out any mix. I still am having probs with elevators, i have tried spoilerons and it didnt help so i turned it off. Didnt like the way it felt with spoilers.

Now on the other hand my sig fazers really loved flaperons. I think it depends more on the plane and less on the pilot. Some planes you need mix annd some dont.

Jess......nice video. How do you control the speed of your rolling harriers. I can do them but they allways speed up and then fall out. If i back offf the power a little then i lose the control in the tail. I know its just me, and i need practice but any tips would be helpfull. Thanks.

BTW....click on the www on the bottom and check out my video on the omp and let me know what i am doing wrong.

Default Flaperon or Elevon???

Flaperon can be used in different ways. Flaperons can be set to a switch to both move to a predetermined point as flaps or spoilers.
They also can be mixed as elevator to flaperon(flap) mixing or elevator to soileron mixing.
Flaperons as Flaps= slow flight with marginal aileron control if more than 50%

Flaperons as spoilers= Hight decent rates, higher angle of attack flight, and faster stall speeds.

Elevator to flap mixing= Tighter loops with additional pitch control.

Elevator to spoileron= Awesome 3D flight with longer tailed airplanes. Water falls, harriers, elevators, walls, and more:-)

I'm sure others could think of more things they can help with.
I Love computer radios!! The combinations possible setups are way out there hundreds of thousands.

Oh ya Elevons are mostly for tailless aircraft. They serve as Pitch and Roll control. The mixing is really the same as Elevator to spoiler mixing accept there mixed 100% as Elevons

How about Drag Rudders or Ruddervators(Vtail). LOL I love this stuff:-)

Hope this helps. Take care and Happy flying.

Dennis,

Nice flying! I do not think you are doing anything wrong. 2 tips that might help the rolling harriers.

1) Roll to the left. The plane has an easier time rolling with the engine Tork. Do not stop the right rollers, you want to be proficient at rolling both ways. The hardest for me is the right rolling inside roller.

2) Vary your aileron input with relation the the pitch or stall of the airplane. Full deflection in full stall, when the plane is flying faster back off the aileron until you push it back to stall.

Hope this helps,

Jess
