RE: OMP Yak build
Ran into a problem, while trying to pull the tail servo wiring through the fuse using fishing line I ripped about 7" of the sheeting and covering from the reciver housing back toward the tail. What's the trick for pulling the wire through?
Luckly the wing will be able to hid the rip. Thanks Blackie |
RE: OMP Yak build
I've been reading this post, and it's killing me. I have to build one, but I have'nt even got all of the stuf to finish my Burrito yet. I hate wanting what you cant have. Oh well, I'll just moove it to next on the list. Great work all, your planes look awesome.

RE: OMP Yak build
WEll I managed to get my problem solved. I used a 4-40 rod and kept jabbing it down the channel until I cleared out a path. I then removed the covering and tacked the sheeting back down with CA and then repatched the cover. I was only a 4" rip not 7.

here are the picture of where my battery and RX is mounted.
I switch is mounted above the battery. Its mounted right below the balsa cap that goes over the top of the foam. My Rx whole is bigger than needed. I originally thought i was going to have to use a voltage regulator for my JR 4721 servos. but it wasn't need in the end.. |
RE: OMP Yak build
Blackie, next time take the black plastic part off your servo wires, it pulls through easy that way.
Joebob, I installed my battery and switch in the left wing, just in front of the spar. Works good. I placed the battery in foam and slid it in. I placed the switch in the wing also, I just cut a small slit and have the recharge wire come out right next to the switch. |

ORIGINAL: CGAV8R Blackie, next time take the black plastic part off your servo wires, it pulls through easy that way. Well here's the finishing pictures. I am still working on the CG that's why the battery is taped on the outside. Weight came in at 6.13 Blackie |
RE: OMP Yak build
Using the Great planes CG machine where is the best setting for this plane?
Thanks Blackie |
RE: OMP Yak build
Great looking plane, Blackie! Mine's done in the same scheme, except I used a little more red on the fuse. Hopefully some pics this week. Still need to cover the rudder and right fuse side. 6.13 sounds great fro the weight. I think 'll come it right at or just under 7lbs with the Magnum .91. Really itching to get this thing in the air!

RE: OMP Yak build
Dam fine job for your first build balckie. Congrats. You will love the way it flies. Im having trouble believing that weight though. What could you have done that I didnt do to save almost 1.5 pounds. Oh well no matter, I got 3 consecutive torque rolls out of mine friday in the wind, and when the wind calmed down it did harrier better, but it doesnt take much of a breeze to make the wings start rocking again, all in all I have a new favorite airplane, and Im sure you will too. I put longer servo arms on my elevator, I now have about 55 degrees or better of throw and it will now flat spin stationary and do climbing inverted flat spins, even did the triple threat ( flat spin to inverted flat spin back to upright) only losing about 10 -15 feet. Did I mention this plane is fun

RE: OMP Yak build
Smallfly when I weighed the plane and looked at the pictures it dawned on me that I had not yet put the prop and spinner on.[X(] This I'm sure will take me past the 7# mark.
Not sure how much weight was saved by over lapping the covering, beginning to wonder if it was enough to worry about. Mistakes made. First wing build, I made a mistake when pinning the ribs but was able to solve the problem, the second wing went much better to plans. Rudder could have used a better sanding before covering. Did not round off the LE of the elevators to match the stab before covering and mounting. Mounted and glued the vertical stab with a 3/32" off set on top of the fuse. Here's what I have on the plane. Saito 100 15X6 prop 11oz fuel tank 2 - HS 605BB on ail's 1 - HS 605BB on elev 1- HS 645MG on Rudd 1 - HS 225 on thro 4-40 "all thread" rods on ail's and du-bro safety clevis's 4-40 rods on the tail with soldered clevis's at the control surface's GP ball link on all servo arms except throttle. Sullivan 2-6# tail wheel assembly with a Du-Bro 1" wheel. 2 1/2" light weight mail wheels 8 channel receiver 720mah NiMh battery Blackie |

Here is a picture of mine. All I need to do is mount the engine. I am putting a ST-90 on it. I had to mount the engine all the way to the front. I was very tempted to take my OS 1.08 out of my AW Edge and put it on this one. What would be a good prop to put on the ST-90?
Thanks, Craig [link=http://www.911teletrainer.com/craig]Craig's Page[/link] |
RE: OMP Yak build
on my OS 91Fx and moosecan,
I have tried a 14x6APC, 15x4W APC 15x6prozinger. I liked the 15x6prozinger the best. I will play with props again this weekend. Hopefully I will find one that I really like. |
RE: OMP Yak build
With my CG 1 1/4" behind the tube, I had to place the battery behind the fuel tank 1/2" behind the engine cut out and add 2 1/2 ounces of led to the nose.
Blackie |
RE: OMP Yak build
IF your using a lightweight spinner, what about using a Higley Heavy Hub for the spinner instead of some of the lead. They weigh 2 oz (8mm) and It puts the weight out as far as possible on the nose, sure It wont look as pretty, but...

I prefer my cg at 1/2" behind rear of spar.
I thought I would post a pic of my battery install too. |

Here's mine, all done and ready for flight. Weight is 7lbs, 5oz, balanced 1" behind the wing tube. Hope it won't be too far aft.

RE: OMP Yak build
Looks great joebob. Your CG will be fine.
|
RE: OMP Yak build
One more ready to go. Had to add an ounce of weight to the tip of the right wing for lateral balance, and 2 1/2 ounces of led to the nose.
Total weight 7 pounds 10 ounces. Overcast tomorrow but we'll see. Blackie |
RE: OMP Yak build
joebob, I don't think 1" behind the wing tube is going to be to far back. Mine was orginally set at 1 1/4" back form wing tube and it was perfect. I have swapped to a litttle prop and now its climbs a little when inverted but not bad. But its still a stable airplane.

RE: OMP Yak build
Joebob,
Your plane looks great. If you built it as well as the taco, you'll have a winner. William |
RE: OMP Yak build
I may try to fly it tomorrow afternoon, if the weather is good. I can't bear seeing it just sit there and not fly. Still have to run the engine in a little more first, and get some longer engine mount bolts. The ones I have aren't long enough to let me put any right thrust in.
Also, I'm measuring from the REAR of the wing tube for my CG. Is that where everyone else is measuring from? novabill, Glad to see you're still enjoying the Taco. You think the Tt.36 is enough power for it?:D[sm=wink.gif] |
RE: OMP Yak build
novabill, Glad to see you're still enjoying the Taco. You think the Tt.36 is enough power for it?:D[sm=wink.gif] It's insane:D[X(] The plane flys at 1 click above idle and hovers at 3 clicks[sm=lol.gif] I havent lost a vertical drag race yet. William |
RE: OMP Yak build
Joebob, mine is from the rear of the tube.
