Fuselage Covering Almost

I still have yet to cover the nose, do some trimming, and get my graphics cut and applied. I am going to try and cover the nose in the morning.

Here is the other side.
By the way, the Ecstasy covered, landing gear installed, engine mount installed (as seen here), weighs in at about 4-1/2 lbs! I don't think that is too bad for a 90-size Fun-Fly. Do you? Kevin :D |
Almost Done
I got the lettering for the Ecstasy cut out today, and applied it to the wings. All of the servos are in and rigged. Engine is mounted. I've painted and glued the canopy tonight. All I got left is mounting the receiver and battery pack. I will still need to tune the header at the field and mount the tune pipe support. I will try and post a pic Sat. of the finished product, Sunday at the latest.

Finished!!!!
1 Attachment(s)
Well I finally finished the Ecstasy. It weighs in a 7-1/2 lbs. There a few changes that I made to the product version of the design to cut some weight out, though I don't imagine it will be much. It has a ST90 with a Mac Header and tuned pipe, 4- MPI870s and 1 std. servo, 1400 mA 4.8V batt. pack.
You can see more pics of the final product on my website at: http://www.hsrcm.com I hope to test fly it tomarrow between the rain drops. Kevin :D |
New Fun-Fly in Development
Looks awesome... I would have used the haigh style tailwheel that you can order from troybuilt... one for this plane is defanately less than 1oz, it was for my 27% 300XS.
What size motor belongs in there? What's the w/s? |
New Fun-Fly in Development
It looks great! With all that side area it should knife well.

Dennis - I'll try & catch-up with Tim and talk to him about visiting you guys at the Fly-in, though I may have to be in Indy that week. Is your club having an open Fly-In, Fly What You Bring? or what.
Cbaltz - I wanted the tall fuse sides & nose configuation like the Wacky-Bee III because of its knife edge capabilities. I also wanted some characteristics of the Hard Bet Mk III and the Aeron. I'll find out today if I was successful (between the rain drops - I hope.) Robert300XS - I have a SIG medium Haige style tail wheel assembly on it now without the extra member. I plan on adding the extra support member later to add a little more tail weight. The wing span is 65 inches. I currently have a 90 ST with a Mac header and tuned pipe installed in the Ecstasy. I am looking for a YS 120 4C to try on her as well. You can see more pics and information on my website at: http://www.hsrcm.com Kevin :D |
New Fun-Fly in Development
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeez at 4.5lbs... you can go unlimited at a little less than 1/2 throttle!
|
New Fun-Fly in Development
Hey I was just thinking about the name.
Why not name it the X-t-c, like ecstacy, but meaning "X-treme Trick Craft" Just a thought, BUT I want royalties for the name, jokes! Hope I inspired you, good building, LEDZ |
4.5 lbs?
Robert300XS - The Ecstacy weighed in at 4-1/2 lbs covered with the landing gear, main & tail wheel assembly without its equipment. Completely fitted out with dbl BB coreless servos all the way around (110 oz-in. MPI-870s), 1400 mA 4.8V batt. pack, with the ST90, Mac Header & tuned pipe, its 7-1/2 lbs. I've changed a few things in the production version that should reduce the weight further.
I changed my website late last night on the Ecstasy. You may need to refresh your computer to see the latest information. Hope that this does not disappoint you, though I hope for unlimited vertical at 1/2 throttle. My Aeron with the Webra 50 is unlimited vertical at 1/4 throttle :D . I had to program in expo just to hover it. Kevin :D |
X-T-C
HEYYYYYYY!!! I really like that! That's COOL  But "X-T-C" would not fill the entire wing panel! (LOL)

Then stretch it , LOOOOONG across!
:) NICE!!! |

Any thoughts of building a 40 size version?
|
40-size?
Cbaltz - Look at the Hard Bet Mk III. It is simuliar enough to make it not worth kitting the Ecstacy in a 40-Size version, even though they don't fly the same. People do not understand that. Most people just look at the aircraft and say it is a duplicate.

FLIGHT Report!!!
1 Attachment(s)
Simply AWESOME!!!
Its a keeper!!! Climbing flat spins! - both inverted and upright! :D This is the first aircraft I've seen perform the climbing upright flatspin & inverted. Climbing tornados - no problem. Floats like a dream. I forced into a stall. It needed high rate elevator to force it into a stalled condition in level forwarded flight. It drops the nose about 4 to 6 inches, then picks up the nose right away. Knife edge loops - no problem. High alpha knife edge - no sweat! I still have some tweaking to do on it. The engine is not coming onto the header quick enough, so I still need to tune the header some more. It currently hovers just over 1/4 throttle, though right now since the engine is not coming onto the header at this low rpm, I have to fluxuate the throttle to hold it. It wants to tail slide, which it does very nicely as well. :D I am charging it tonight so that I can spend some time at the field tomarrow to tune the header properly. This one is going to make the kit form. By the way, I got a better picture of the Ecstasy - at least a better looking model. This young lady is Kimberly. Kimberly is wife to a good flying buddy of mine. Kevin :D |

What is the Span again?
|
The model's a keeper huh,
but I thought you said Kimberly is married he he.
Happy to hear the good progress on the model (Extasy, that is). From the picture it looks like you didn't cap the wing tips. It looks like you just have the lightened wing tip ribs in there, any reason for that? I have almost finised the wing for the Aeron, went together nice and straight, will start on the fuse soon. New Fun-Fly in Development
Still freakin light... Looks awesome! I want one!

Replies!
DKJens - Yes she is a keeper - but not mine (Ha Ha!). I had to get a pretty young lady to model with the Ecstasy like the Big Boys. I'm just too old and ugly to model with it, so I've been told (LOL) :D
The ends of the wings are covered with transparent yellow monokote. They just look open, but they are not. I just updated my website with some test flight report info. I can't wait until the ST90 is broken in and I get the header tuned better. I took some movies today of a friend of mine flying it (Kimberly's husband). When I find some time, I'll edit the movies and post them on my website. Jens - what motor are you planning on using on the Aeron? I helped a guy build his fuse on an Aeron. We used medium density balsa for the 3/8" SQ. pieces on the bottom of the fuse. So we obmitted the 1/16" balsa sheeting on the outside of the fuse sides. With a Webra 50, Mac Extra Long Header and tuned pipe, his came out well under 4 lbs.! I tried to convince him to put a Webra 32 with a moose can set-up on it, but wanted awesome power. He's GOT IT!!! :D Cbaltz - the wing span is 65". Wing area is 1255 SQ. inches. You can get more information on my website: http://www.hsrcm.com Robert300XS - I have yet to finish the construction manual. It is about 70% complete. I already have the CF landing gear and vacuum formed canopies for the kits in stock. I hope to have the kits ready to sell in early Oct. '02 Kevin :D |
