Katana 40 ...Which 2 Stroke?

I just got my Kat 40 arf in the mail. I dont really want to spring for a 4 stroke right now. I know some of you guys have put 2 strokes in them. Which 2 stroke do you guys think has enough power to pull it good out of a hover. Would a TT 46 with a Tower muffler fit the bill? Thanks in advance, JT

i've seen clips of a profile Katana .40 from ACCEL and it can go straight up vertical w/ TT 46. TT is a great brand.. and the Thunder Tiger 46 Pro will not diappoint you... also it's only $80

I think the Webra 50 and Irvine 53 are great 40 size two strokes for profiles. The TT 46 Pro is also a good engine at a reasonable price. The Webra and Irvine will run you around $125 - $145 new. The new Webra Speed 55 looks like it may be the new 40 size powerhouse. I just got one, but it is still in the box. It weighs the same as the Webra 40, and is advertised to have almost as much power as a 60. The bad news is it costs almost as much as a YS 63.[:@]

I'm running a TT 46 Pro in mine with excellent results. For the price, you can't beat the peformance of the TT 46.

Mine was 4 lb. 4 oz as setup in the video. I could drop 0.5 oz by replacing nose cone w/ a standard hex nut & washer.

I had a Saito 82 on this plane before, and it weighed 4 lb. 6 oz. It does not fly any worse w/ the extra 2 oz. In fact, it flew much better w/ the huge prop wash from a 15" prop: harrier is much more stable, vertical acceleration was much more on-the-punch. The only drawback to Saito 82 on a profile is that it shakes too much for .40 size profile nose, and the fuel tank would shake too much, w/ clunk picking up air.

I just got an Email back from hanger 9 and they said that they WILL be carrying the webra speed 55 but they were not to sure as to how soon. This is in the US.

I got a return call from Horizon last week. The lady that called said they were picking up the engine and it would probably be available around the end of June. I have got my Webra 55 mounted on a Burrito and like it so far. With the stock muffler it is turning an APC 12.25x3.75 @ 13,000 rpm. I have less than a half gallon of fuel through it, so it may have a few more rpm in it.

The link is to a thread in the Glow Engine forum about the 55.

Mine has a VERY expensive Jett 50 BSE FIRE with pipe in it. However, a powerful, inexpensive alternative is a Magnum 52XLS (less than $100, and much less on sale).
