To paint my cans, i usually lightly sand them with 440 sandpaper. Give it a soap and water bath. Let it dry. then spray it. As for holding up, a friend gave me one this way that was painted. he said he has had it for a year, and I have had it for 6 months and it still looks OK. I don't think the fuel really gets to it. It probably the vibration agains plane that take the paint off.

If it burns off, because of the heat, you have probably fried your motor from running it too lean.

Yes the monocote stays on good I've tried to clean one off to change colors, and it was tough to get off. I cut the monocote 3/8-1/2" longer than the can section with the largest diameter. I wrap twice around then seal the edge. I form the over hang around the ends of the can, the shrink with a heat gun. It takes about 5-10 minutes when you have everything out and ready, and it's ready to fly as soon as you get done. I have also painted with Lustercote to make it match, but I like the monokote better. Tom

I found a can today in the cabinet that I hope the wife doesn't miss. Its a cake icing can with a label wrapped around it(no writing on the can itself). The can is white and looks just like a Robart retract can. Its a little bit stronger too. I was wanting to find a can that didn't bend so easily. Now I have to get her to bake cakes more often so I can get more cans. I just hope I don't eat to many cakes and get to fat for that topless event that Gator was talking about. Just thought ya'll might wanna know..............John

Jmulder

what color didi you paint your can. I have used black alot, but I would like to use white or yellow. I am wondering how it would hold up.

Here is a pic of the mousse can I made and fit to my MTK. I did solder a 1/8 inch piece of aluminum tubing for a pressure tap for the tank. Didn't paint or cover it. Can't really see it that good when flying.

Ya'll know what???????.....I made mine backwards from you all. My Inlet is in the small end and the outlet is in the cupped end. I was thinking about the drag of the cupped end being faced forward........Ya'll think it will make much of any difference???.............John

For a .32-.46 I use K&S 9/32" OD aluminum tubing for my mousse stinger, which is #107.
