Pull-Pull Systems
I'm looking for a source for pull-pull systems.... I've got a few planes I'm wanting to rework... I guess I could go the LHS and buy some du-bro 2x56 pull-pull kits for $6 a pop...
But I was hoping to get something in bulk... Maybe a spool of cable or even kevlar thread and a bunch of connectors... What are you guys using? Source? |
Pull-Pull Systems
Paul,
Walmart has stainless steel fishing leader material, and the crimper and connectors that go with them. Its good cable, and I guess if it can handle 120 lb fish, it can handle a 4lb plane, and the stresses that exudes. |
Pull-Pull Systems
Before I moved from Houston I went to Morris and bought a bunch of pull pull stuff in bulk from them.
Try that. |
For do-it-yourself...
Get some DuBro no 618 4-40 Rigging Couplers. They are 4-40 threaded pieces with a hole drilled thru the end. Then you can hook a 4-40 ball link to one end, and a 4-40 clevis to the other, with some SpiderWire in between. On something as small as a Fun-Fly, you could run the servo without a bellcrank..

Sullivan Pull-Pull
Sullivan has a pull-pull system. You get 30 feet of .032(1/32") stainless steel cable that's brass plated for easy soldering, and 30 feet of the yellow nylon housing. It's part # S522 for $8.95.The Dubro 4-40 and 2-56 cables will work with the Sullivan yellow nylon housing if you don't want to solder.

I get mine from Walmart like stevezero. For about five bucks you can get enough stuff to rig 25 or 30 planes...works great....................John

same as above
kmart for coated fishing wire and 4-40 rigging couplers from dubro. on my last plane I put the wire right through the servo arm and just used the coupler on the other end.
I tried the kevlar and it's strong stuf but weakened at the connection points. |
Pull-Pull Systems
I thread it through the servo arm and on the other end I cut off the threaded end of a 2-56 pushrod and bend a loop in it then thread on a clevis......simple........John

What are the advantages of using a pull-pull system on the rudder? Can it only be used on the rudder?
Thanks-Brian |
Pull-Pull Systems
Can be used on anything really but I use em on rudder and elevator. when the servo is pulling there cant be any slop anywhere but if it is pushing it might flex a little.
|
Pull-Pull Systems
My majestic pattern plane has a 6 wire pull pull system on it. two wires for the rudder, and two wires each for the split elevator.
|
Pull-Pull Systems
how does a pull-pull system work on the elevator???
|
Pull-Pull Systems
I will try to take some pics at lunch, and post them when I get back. Basically works the same as the rudder. Since my elevator is split into two halves opposite of the rudder, I have a wire on the top and bottom of the elevator half. The opposite half of the other elevator meet at the servo, to give proper input. Meaning the top of one will meet with the bottom of the other side, and vice versa.

Pull-Pull Systems
If you have a one piece elevator, then its the same type of connection as a rudder pull/pull system.

Can one of you guys with a camera take a pic of the spool of wire you get at Wal-Mart or K-Mart? I look and look for it, but cant find it. I want to use the wire, not spider wire.
Thanks, Jon |
Pull-Pull Systems
Me too.... I've seen lots of spider wire and really strong fishing line... but only short leader length (12") of actual wire cable...

Pull-Pull Systems
Eagle Claw makes them. Might not be as prevalent in the middle portion of the country. Being originally from FL, you couldnt go past the aisles there without seeing stainless leader material, due to all the salt water fishing.
Try Cabelo's, Bass Pro Shops, or any of the outdoor online stores. They should have it in a bulk amount. This is just one at bassproshops.com http://www.basspro-shops.com/servlet...rTarget=search This would be the most bang for the buck. 600 foot spools, stainless steel available http://www.basspro-shops.com/servlet...rTarget=browse This was under the terminal tackle, header, terminals& accessories page. Another brand: http://www.basspro-shops.com/servlet...rTarget=browse This is just a starting point. Nose around some. I didnt make it home for lunch, so no pics. I will try to take some tomorrow. I wish I had of known ya'll wanted some.....I was at wal mart in Suffolk VA. the other day and they had it on clearance for 1 dollar per roll......John

Heck if ya'll cant find it let me know and I'll pick you some up.
|
I don't know..
I like SpiderWire..I use 80Lb test..I have pulled up 14+ ft logs with it, towed a boat with it once. It is light, strong as all get out, light, easy to use. A guy I fly with wasn't convinced of it's strength..I tied some directly to a DuBro large control horn. Put that in a vice, tied the other end to a hammer handle. Pulled the SpiderWire thru the control horn. When fishing with it, if you get hung, you cannot just wrap it around your hand and pull, it will cut you to the bone before it will break. It will sure as heck strip the gears in any nylon geared servo before it breaks.
Just my experience...this is the aramid braid, not the monofilament BTW |
Pull-Pull Systems
so with a elevator pull pull do u mount the servo sideways?
|
Pull-Pull Systems
You don't have to mount the servo sidways... Just route the cables thru a piece of inner nyrod and then out to the control surface... Like this:

Here are some pics of my majestic's pull pull system. This is on a .32-.40 sized pattern plane, that is getting an enya 80 four stroker on it :)
I know there are a couple of bolts missing, but I am recovering the plane, so i slipped the linkage back on it for the pics. |
