We have an engine returned to us for repair with sign of FOD damage to compressor wheel. After taken the engine apart, we found rust on most critical metal parts and the bearings were damaged and dirty. After consulting with the owner, FOD was only part of the problem. Fuel contamination was evident as local hardware store kerosene was used. The quality of this kerosene when mixed with turbo oil was not 100%. After leaving the fuel to sit for sometime, chemical deposit was found inside the fuel tank as well as the fuel container. Usually, hardware store keorosene is ok but there could be contamination from storage or refilling. It is recommended that you test the blending quality of the kerosene and the turbo oil used if in doubt. We have no problem with Jet A fuel or even the local kerosene but again, the quality or impurity may varied. If you use new type of kerosene, please check the purity and filter and filter and filter......
