Default Pylon racing in Texas 2012

Anyone interested in pylon racing in Texas needs to mark their calendar and plan on attending the first annual TPRA (Texas Pylon Racing Association) meeting in Waco TX on January 14th, 2012.

We plan on discussing all forms of pylon racing from EF-1 electric, Club 40, and up to Q500 424,426,& 428.

We will be discussing the possibility of promoting the NMPRA program or adopting our own TPRA organization and which would better fit our needs to promote pylon racing in Texas.

This will be an open discussion with opening remarks by people in the know such as Dub Jett, Fred French, Randy Rich, and others.

After the key note speakers remarks the floor will be open for anyone to speak.

We will try to follow a parliamentary type of meeting, letting everyone have their say.

After that we will put it to a vote as to which way we want to go.

We will set a race schedule up for 2012 and hope to have more pylon racing in TX this year.

Contact Jim McGuinn for place and time. I need to know how many to expect so that I can secure a meeting place large enough. It will likely be a restaurant that is easily accessible from I 35.

I am planning on starting around 10 or 11 AM have the opening remarks and then break for lunch, then continue with the meeting.

If the weather is good I would like to see Dub Jett and Randy Rich put on a demonstration 426 flight at our field.

Please respond early so I can get a count of how many will be attending.

Any feed back is welcome.

This will be a dutch treat, but it will be a moderate price restaurant.

I would like to see all of the CD's that plan on holding races in TX this year attend.

Not to be "picky" but Jerry Small is definitely NOT a Q-25 supporter, except that it IS racing and Jerry supports racing in general. Jerry is an exceptional artist, with an eye for style and form and doesn't particularly like "ugly boxes". Jerry's thing is promoting EF-1 since he and Dan Kane are the primary developers of the class. There WILL be some North Texas Q-25 guys attending however. Personally, I think that Q-25 is a MUCH better entry level class to 424/426 than C-40, but of course I love my C-40 plane too, it's my favorite all-around sport plane (and I can RACE it!).

Jim....Got a date set yet for EF1 race in your area? We have a couple of guys down in the Beaumont area that are flying legal EF1's and would like to check out racing. Would you mind if others post other Texas races in your thread?

There isn't any 424 or 426 racing anywhere in Texas near me.

I drive to Kansas and Missouri to race.

Well, some people forget that New Mexico is separate form Texas, so You can pretend the Albuquerque race is in Texas. EF1, 424, 426, August 4-5.

Not at this time, but we are hopeful. There are no fields/clubs with active racers in the DFW area that have enough room for the bigger safety setbacks. The NEW T-bird field MIGHT be big enough, and we are going to check it out. Quickie and faster racing has apparently died out in the Houston area due to lack of participation and the understandable reluctance of CD's to put on races and then have nobody show up. Scobee field IS big enough according to a well-known racer there. I will be the CD for the first T-bird Q-25/EF-1 race at T-bird field on May 27th and am VERY concerned about trying to find the necessary pylon judges and administrative help.

We are working on it. GEORGETOWN is supposed to have a two pole 424 and we are looking at setting up a 3 pole short course in Waco

Yes, I've heard that Fast Freddy French might have enough room at his place to set up a 3-pole course. Let's hope it works out.
