Default Lanier Predator - first flight, need help

First flight Predator w/ Jett Fire 50, APC 10x8, Macs Quiet Pipe. New to Q500. Plane climbes like a bugger. V Tail, all movable surfaces in neutral. Do I have to shim back wing? Also left turn with everything centered . I figured that out when I got home, pretty good twist in wing tip to tip, I can fix that.

Suggestions on the climbing situation. Dave

How much down trim does it take to sustain level flight? The width of the trailing edge of the elevator? 1/16"... 1/8".. more??

Are you planning on racing this model? or just sport flying at your local club?

Default Lanier Predator - first flight, need help

From the many previous posts regarding the inaccuries of this model (Warped wings is an example) I have read that the Engine/wing/tail incidence is not that good.

The first thing I would do to solve the climbing question is to check the tail and engine incidence relative to the wing. All three should be set at 0-0. to start with. If the tail is glued in then prpbably the easiest fix is to shim the wing and/or engine.

There is little point in making other suggestions until the wing warp is corrected and the incidences are correct.

Well I got 80% of wing warp out. Letting it relax overnight. Take care of remaining tomorrow. How much down put in to correct, never got there. It was a real handfull. I agree, shim wing and or down thrust. All I know it wanted to really climb.

No I'm not racing, just fast plane.

I'll let you guys know. Thanks, Dave

Default Update report

Well I flew it today after the above fixes and it was 90% better. I needed a little aileron to correct warped wing, not much. lots of time and heat to get warp out. I put a nylon washer under hold down screws at rear of wing. It flew and trimmed like it could stand 2 washers thick.

It was very gusty and in level flight it hunted up & down, pitch wise. I don't know if it was the gusty conditions or what. Anyway I was in control of IT this time out. The first flight was a heart stopper.

Turns on a dime for sure. Can't believe the wing can take it.

Any ideas on the pitch situation?

Dave

Try reducing your throws and it will probably smooth out. High rates for deadstick landings and low-low rates for normal flying.
