I'm putting together my first V tail airplane.
The instructions say 3/16 inch throw to start.
Is that 3/16 with both rudder and elevator sticks
against the stops or 3/16 for each. What about
over travel on the servo? I'm using a Hitec eclipse and 555 reciever if it makes a difference.
Thanks.

Total travel, 3/16" that is. If you have a computer radio that you can set the endpoints than the make the max travel about 3/16" inch in each direction
You be surprised how little it takes to make it turn properly at top speed, maybe as little a a 1/8" So set up the dual rate to maximize control surface travel for landing and takeoffs. And have the race setup with as little control as necessary to get the job done. When your ready to land, chop the power and flip the rates to full for landing and your there.
If your radio allows you set how much each surface travels, than go for more up travel than down. I have only half as much down as up travel. It will make the model seem less squirrelly. And the rudder should only move maybe half as much as the elevator.
Good luck

John I use both the Prism 7 and Eclipse for my Q500's and for both the travel functions on rudder ch4 and elevator ch2 are set at 50% . For the eclipse go to page 25 in your manual 'setting up V tail mixing' and it will walk you through it step by step. You will have no trouble getting the throws. From there you will most likely reduce throws with DR.
