Default SWE_Seeker_Have been flyin.

Well it took a lot of time before i got finished of my Seeker. No inspiration and lots of other things come in my way.

But now i'm finished and I have made my first skinned hinge. Both aileron and tail. And I must say, I don't think I do
that again. To much work and to difficult.
This plane is intend to run in slower class (like your 424). The first flight went good and I guess it fly like it should.

[&o] The color on the wing was the only one I have left.

More pic will come soon on my webpage.

[X(] Ooops Should only be one pic.

Looks great.. Don't give up on the skinned hinge.. It gets easier every time.. Now I'm perplexed having to do regular hinges on a sport plane.

Thank's Diggs
This thing with V-tail! Is that a fashion thing or is it really faster than a T-tail?
One thing that come as a surprise for me (this is my first V-tail) is the rudder function!
The rudder function is very pure. I have only fly it 2 tanks, but if you give rudder in horizontal
flight, the plane will dive!! That was not what I have in mind. So in landing you will have no benefit
of the rudder.
In a T-tail plane you will notice that the rudder function really works. Could be handy with landing
in bad weather and so.

I'm building the next one now, and I'm thinking deeply if I should use a T-tail version of the Seeker.
Maybe that will be the first?

Have anyone tried that? Or if anyone have a drawing over a suitable T-tail for the Seeker, I would love to share that.

The thing's with skinned hinge that i think is difficult, is to know how much epoxy you should put on to have the right
stiffness. And sand of the area for the glass, so you get a smooth surface.

Too get room in the tail for the linkage was not a easy thing.

Some more tips would be nice.

I have the skinned hinge manuals from both Dave and Bill, but I'm still thinking it is difficult.

the thought of a V tail is there is one less wing root to loose drag upon.

With a conventional tail or T tail theres 3 wing roots, with a Vtail there's 2

I use rudder alot when racing and landing, I'll trim so the model knife edges with a little right rudder.

Then I'll use lots of rudder landing sometimes in a cross wind because the ailirons are so tiny

I've been working on and off on a T-Type Seeker(mostly because they look cool ).. I've got it all down on paper but that's about as far as I've got.

As far as the V-tail being faster is concerned, I honestly think it's because all the guys that win use them so they must be faster because of the tail and not the thumbs of the pilot.. Just a thought..

Ok Diggs, Thank's for your ansers. I will see about the end of the month when I go racing if speed is sufficient.
Right know i think I have move the CG a little bit to far back. Because the plane
is very sensitive, and not so harmonic. I should know try and move the CG a little bit
forward too see if is flying a little bit better. Know I thing i have nearly 75mm to the CG (or 2,5!QUOT!)

What is your suggest of CG?

regs.

73-76 mm should be fine for CG.

The plane should not be sensitive, you can move the CG slightly forward, or reduce your throws.

I did'nt give up I trying again with my next wing with skinned hinge. And this time it's better.
I have updating my site with some new pic.
You can follow my progress here http://www.pyloncorner.com/eng/seeker.htm

The next part that I think is little bit tricky is to drill throw the wing in a perpendicular angel to the
front wing former.

I also have some question about the tail. Are you cutting and inserting the linkage before gluing it to a tail.
Or do you cut the tail in half's. Glue the 2 pieces together to a V-tail and then insert the linkage.

Regs.

I cut the 1 piece elevator in half, cut the proper angle in each half and glue together. AFter it is glued at 115 degrees I bend and install my torque rods. Then I glue the tail to the fuse.

There is a good write up of building a vtail under Hurrikane instructiions at www.supertrc.com

Hi Dave
Thank's for your reply. There was some useful tips at the link you attached. But most of them is
exactly how i do them.

Your way of putting the V-tail together was my guess too and also how I did'it the first time.

I have know moved my CG a little bit forward and know it's flying much better. For me it usually
takes some flights to trim all together.

Hi Per
skinned hinges

I've tried both the Bill Vargas and DaveN method for skinned hinges and I found that a variation of Daves method to be by far the easiest. Rather than sand a seat for the fiberglass sheet I skin it out with a very heavy very sharp chisel. I also find that the thick CA does a very good job of holding the hinges even on 428 planes.
