Default Lanier Predator - is it OK???

Hello
I was thinking about trying Q-500 and I wanted to know if a Lanier Predator is any good. I found one new in the box on the auction site and it is done Friday and is only $35 so far.

My question is, it says there were changes done to improve it, firewall, landing gear block glassed etc. If all that needs to be done were these planes any good or should I pass. I want to fly it in 424 with a group called NEPRO. I am going to use a TT40 pro engine.

Thanks
Ed

get a Viper, it's a little smoother, and it will out run that Pred. I saw it too.

Thanks, do you think it would be good enough just to get my feet wet. I understand the Viper have some problems too. I just can't find much on the Predator. Do they still make it?

Thanks
Ed

The Predator isn't made anymore, but it would be fine for a first 424 airplane to see if you enjoy racing (you will). There were 2 versions, the later version had internal V-tail linkages and a few other minor improvements. Great Planes/Hobbico bought out Lanier, and then killed off the Predator as they already sell the Viper...

Once you get hooked on racing there are many better choices available for 424 if you don't mind a little building such as the Vortex, Seeker, Hurrikane or Sam-Rai.

I've been racing with a local group in upstate NY but want to branch out and do more racing so I'll also be racing with NEPRO in 2009 so will see you down the road.

I have one. No major problems to report. I put it on par with the Viper and othewise agree with the rest of the comments. $50 is a steal. Especially for the first time out and to give you an idea of what a quickie flies like.

It was my first 424 plane. It 's good and I did fine with it. In pylon racing it's all about practice, skill and preparation and whether you are flying a Predator or Viper in 424 has little to do with how well you do. For 35 bucks get it and don't even worry about which version it is.

Hi Ed,
Go ahead the Predator is a good plane to start with. I got a few for my grandson and to be honest, he said he likes it better than his Viper now in a cross wind. The Nepro guys are great, they will give you all the help you need.
