Had a US41 in a TFGS Mustang..After a year of about 25 flights, with very satisfactory performance, in flight today, the shaft broke just in front of the flywheel taper..The flywheel, prop shaft and nut. 5"spinner, and an 18-12 prop left thru the front of the cowl...Instantly tail heavy, it was nursed into a cornfield with moderate damage....Has anyone experienced this breakage? The same prop and spinner, precisely balanced, have been used from day one, actually, a very smooth running engine thru the entire range....

I had purchased the 41 engine new from B&B...He refused to repair it, said He couldn't contact the manufacturer, and no new blocks were available... That was last fall!!..
However, B&B did say they would repair it for about $200.00?? I have since purchased a Brillelli 46 with EI.. Smooth and powerful, it hauls the TFGS around with ease.. Unless you find something on Ebay, or at a swap meet, replacement parts are not available for the old 41......
Before I spent too much on the old 41, I would contact Scott at Brillelli Engines .. fine people to deal with, warrant everything they sell, and have a top notch product...

W8YE,
Actually, I did.. I purchased a Brillelli 46, EI flip starts, great power, and turns a 20-10 prop with ease.....With EI, muffler , and standoffs it came to $395.00. Hauls the 22# Mustang around with good speed..

W8Ye,
It is rather sad.....The Quadras and the 41 were the " Iron Horses" of the gas engine breakout in our sport, and though they will still give journeyman service, time and technology have passed them with lighter and more powerful engines..
