Hi Everybody:
Well, after 35 years, my brushes finally wore out on my Kavan Starter.
I ordered a new set and they don't look quite the same as what I have.
Anybody know how to change the brushes in a Kavan starter?
If so, I would appreciate step by step instructions, please!!
Regards,
Dennis

You may have to file or sand the brushes so they will fit in the holders
I have worked on Sullivan and Hobbico/Tower starters.
I assemble the bushes on the back plate.
Install the armature only onto the backplate and bearing. You can hold the brushes back with you fingers.
Hold the armature down and slide the field down over the armature.
Then install the front bearing plate
No need for strings or wires to hold the brushes back.

For anyone who is interested, I e-mailed Kavan and they sent me a pdf file with instructions.
If anyone needs it, let me know and I'll post it here if I can.

The reduction gear and front shaft bearing will eventually fail in the Kavan starter. They are a nice starter and people keep them for years
