With the current discussion going on about the FAA new regulations, it occurs to me that Isure don't know how high I'm flying or fast my plane is. Any rule of thumb or easy method to determine those measurements?

Not really unless you spend some money and buy one of those devices that will record those types of things for you. In my experiece most people are very poor judges of speed and altitude. Don't worry about unless you have some kind of regulations on the field where you fly. If you just want to know you can get one of these - http://www.eagletreesystems.com/Stan...standalone.htm

If you're flying in the L.A. area, it might not be a bad idea to check into these [8D]
('suppose it depends on how near or far away LAX or other "full scale" airports / traffic is / are )

Thanks Flyin Beagle and proptop, I just might get those instruments. I fly near an airport and we are supposed to not exceed 400". Iwas flying one day and someone from the airport did come out to warn one pilot that he was exceeding the limit. From what Ican remember, that pilot was flying much higher then I fly. Just out of curiosity Iwould like to know. Maybe on the next plane Ibuild.

This came up at our last meeting and most of the guys agree that we "think" we are flying a lot higher than we really are, especially the 40 and 60 size models that most of us have.
