You double nut the shaft...get another 1/4 x 28 nut, and put the 2 together...tighten them (jam nut style ) into each other.
Then use a small wrench on the flats of the end of the crank to keep it from rotating as you put a prop wrench or socket on the double nuts to unscrew the stud.

I'm guessing heat didn't work, eh?
Those things will have you pulling your hair out until you figure out that the darn thing is threaded in instead of part of the crank like most other engines.
