Default Engine Mount

Hey Gang...

Ok so Ijust got anAMAZING but pre ownedRV-4 with a70" Wingtoday and Iwas going to put My OS75 in there and asIm mounting it Irealize Iam at the very end of the mount and the prop shaft is to short, The prop hub is setlike 3 1/4" behind theCowl opening, Measuring from the firewall to opening ofcowland adding a bit of room for clearence its like a hair over 6"!!So Icall My hobby shop and big shocker they are all scratching their heads..
Imean can Ijust add more wood between the mount and the firewall, Will that be strong enough?

Anyways, anyone else know where Ican get a long mount, whats its called, who makes it.. ETC..

Thanks All..
Max.

You will probably need to make a plywood box & mount it to the firewall first & then the motor mount . Max H.

That seams odd to have to shim a mount out that far,, I'd like to see a pic of what you have there

You could also just buy or make some stand offs,, but an extra 3 1/2" is alot

I think you must have mismeasured somewhere. A 60 to 75 motor and mount will be more in the order of 5 inches or more from the back of mount to the from of prop hub. However, probably easier than building a box extension on your firewall would be to use standoffs. Many sizes are available or if you are good at cutting thick wall tubing you can make your own. Here is just one of the many sizes that Tower sells, http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXYUT3&P=ML .

I have the OS .75 AX mounted in the GP RV-4 using the engine mount that came with the plane. It fits fine. The mount is this one:

Your problem is that that is not the one that originally comes with the plane. It is too short. Use the one I pointed to above.

The width of the mount is adjustable. The OS .75 fits perfectly.

Yes, as Istated Idid buy the bigger one after Inoticed the standardone from My old plane didnt fit but it is not perfect size so maybe mine was molded wrong or something.. Had to use a clamp and drill the holes with the engine on and so on.. Needless to say it is on and now Iam having the HORRIBLEtask of cutting the Cowling for the huge muffler that sits down below.. One bad thing about buying a pre owned plane but Ijust had to have this plane and I hate to build, in the worst way..
