Default Retract Servos...

I have just ordered my first plane which will have retracts (no Idea how its taken me so long!)

It is a seagull super tucano (90 size) which i´ll be fitting with a DLE 20...

In this plane (4.7kg flying weight according to the manual). Just ONE retract servo is used.. which is installed in the fuselage and every day you fly, as you mount the wings on the wing tubes you also have to install the wings undercarriage´s pushrods into a clevis inside the fuselage!

I can just see that being a headache and needing adjusting every time...

SO.. I just happen to have from a previous order I screwed up some mini retract servos I could very easily hide in the wing... BUT

If the manual looks for 1x 12kg servo for all 3 wheels..... Would I be ok with 3x 3.4kg servos? (roughly close to 4x3=12)??????

In short: is 3.4kg/48oz-in enough torque for one retract on a 90 size model?

ok plane has 3 retractable undercarriages... all being powered by one retract servo

In this case I think its easier to have one servo per retract.

will 3 less powered servos equal one strong servo being used for 3.... or do all 3 need to be strong servos?

Ie.. is a 3.4kg torque servo enough for to operate one retract in a 90 size plane.?

Yeah might be the answer!
After buying a complete airfract today, its just a case of not letting the girlfriend find out how much it costs..... obviously everything came to under 100$!!! (incase shes reading!)

I´m purely asking as I have these mini retract servos here at hand...

The simple and practical solution is to use one retract servo for the main gear in the wing and then another retract servo for the mechanical retract in the nose.

In this way you only have one servo lead to plug in when installing the wing.

This is a common solution to that dilema and even if the wing was not removable I would not look forward to rigging three mechanical retract to a single servo..

Wow, that would be a pain!

This wing is not one complete wing, its separatr wings with a wing tube and bolts.

In the end i've spent a lot of cash On the eflite electric retracts.
This way i can just get 3 servos per wing wited into some multiplex connectors and have a simple setup!

In that case if you are confident that the small electric retracts and retract servos are sufficient for the flight and landing loads of your ninety sized airplane then yes using three servos is a practical solution and the the technique is soldering up a simple custom three way "Y" chord. They are easy I have done many for multiengine airplane throttles for a variety in numbers of engines.

No i'm not confident about the servos... Its why i ask haha

In the end, i have ordered an eflight electrical set... Costs a lot more but i think for peace of mind and an easy life, its worth it!

Thanks all
