Default 1/4 scale servos

I just got a plane that has all 1/4 scale servos in it, except the theottle servo. Do they use more power from the batery since they are larger? should I use a high mha 6v battery with them? can I replace them if needed? Ive never seen where I could buy them. Just wondering, thanks guys.

Google the manufacturer's name and product number on their labels. Someone should have a spec sheet for whatever model servo they are.

Let us know what kind of servos?

The short answer is probably yes, larger servos consume more current, and yes, most of them will run off a 5cell NiMH battery.

You mean you have digital servos? I never knew there was a such thing as 1/4 scale servos?

Ok, here is a little more info. They are Hitec ball bearing, HS-700BB is the servo number, and here is a pic of what Ive got and I have a total of 4 of them in this aircraft. The wingspan is 8' and it is a scratch build cherokee.

An old marketing term meaning heavy duty servos, from the days 1/4 scale was huge.

I also believe the cases of the servos were bigger too.

Oh, OK. I'm old but I guess I'm not as old as some. Never heard the term, but again I wasn't in the hobby until about 12 years ago. Before then I was into free flight and rubber powered aircraft and plastic aircraft models.

Easy now! I'm not THAT old! I"ve just been doing this since I was 12

Tower used to sell "1/4 scale servos", heck I ripped the output gear right out of the top of one of them with aileron flutter on a giant telemaster. Yes, they were physically bigger than standard size servos. Truth is there's probably mini's today with titanium gears and more torque

I guess it's safe to say we're not old until we start flatulating dust. I know if it was me I'd start looking into those all day RC airplane retirement villages when that starts to happen!

Yes, it's amazing how technology has improved for our hobby, just in a few years. I haven't made up my mind yet to say it was all for the good yet.

Just a tad bigger.

These are 3.65 oz and I think they have about 130oz of torque. I have minis with more than that now.

Here are some others Tower carries,

This page http://www.servodatabase.com/servo/hitec/hs-700bb shows the specs for your servo. And if you need to replace one, ServoCity says use this one: http://servocity.com/html/hs-755hb_1_4_scale.html

LOL Yeah you used to need HUGE servos to fly your HUGE 80" plane.

Actually what you really needed was more surface area on the servo gears to stand up the converted chain saw engines's vibration.

We see that today when people use direct link from carb to throttle servos and servos Karbonite gears.
