Air Filters are they any good?
I've got an Irving 46 engine mounted inverted in my Home Run.
I fly from a grass strip and I've notice that the carb often picks up bits of muck (grass, dirt etc). So I was thinking about fitting an air filter. On one occasion I had to remove and clean out the carb before I dared to start the engine again. So I though it might be worth investigating an air filter. Has anyone tried fitting one and are they any good? Can you recommend a good make or a good home brew solution.
Thanks
Nick

I too fly off of grass and use Bru-Line coarse air filters. Can't tell the difference in engine performance with, or without the filter. Recommend you have engine/carb set up exactly the way you want as far as servo throws are concerned, because the filter will not allow you to see down the venturi unless you remove the filter screen. Not a big deal, however, can be a pain at the field.

Wouldn't things get just a little hot for that!? I would think that the hose would melt.

If you are flying off sod and have an inverted engine, air filters are highly recommended. Check out some contemporary C/L stunt planes, and you will find those who fly off grass will usually have a filter. Besides, they aren't a whole lot of trouble to deal with. Good luck, Dzl
