I had my maiden flights on the OS GGT15 gas/glow engine powered GP Escapade 61 today. Both the plane and engine performed very well. The engine ran with out any issues and had good vertical. I think OS has a winner with this new glow/gas engine configuration. The power seems about the same as an OS .75 nitro engine. The only issues remaining are dependability and longivity. Only time and use can answer those questions. I am quite impressed with both the plane and engine.
Best wishes and good safe flying.

Just for fun, I tried using one of my G5 glow plugs in an EVO 10CC gas engine. It did not work. I tried several times but the engine would not run. I have seen others try this with NGH and Saito engines on YouTube that seem to work but the EVO 10CC engine would not run. I could not even get a pop out of the EVO on glow. When I put the spark plug back in and connect the ignition, the engine runs just fine. There must be a bit more to the OS gas/glow engine than just a new glow plug.

The G5 is the gas glow plug. I had thought of doing the same thing on my Evo 10 but I'm glad Heli-Nubee did, I wonder why it didn't work myself. I am getting a Twist 60 ready for my OS 15cc gas glow hope to have it flying by next week.

I have several more flights on my OS 15 gas/glow engine now and have had excellent results and performance. However, I have had to lean down the low speed needle a bit to prevent the engine from loading up at idle. Also, I have found that the needle settings on both the high and low range are quite sensitive. One has to take their time and be patient about setting the needles.

ok im going to but in here for a min if you take a car and advance or retard the time you gaining or losing something your eithe gaining power and losing fuel economy or gaining fuel economy and losing power i no you are talking about the smaller planes but evolution makes a 10cc at the cost of 200 bucks whats the little weight for reliability me personally i still have several glow planes but everything ive bought or built in the last year has been gas i have several .40 and 60 size planes w the dle 20 or vvrc 20 so what there a little heavier they have the power to overcome that

No, mustang331, changing the timing on any internal combustion engine is not a trade off of economy versus power. Getting the timing right actually peaks both of them. There is some trade off with the air /fuel mix in a gas engine, but that's of no concern to aeromodelers.

I have three fights on my os GGT 15 gas/glow and it has plenty of power for my Twist 60 (only needs half throttle) and I'm at 5,000 ft. Thanks for the input about the needle settings it does want to die on landing roll out. Also noted it needs a fully charged glow igniter to fire up my fuel, but it maybe because I use 32:1 with Coleman fuel. I like it a lot.

i drag race and i no if the timing doesnt advance you loose power on my truck i can retard or advance the timing to fit my needs if i want more power i ADVANCE IT for economy ill retard it not saying this is the case here but when i started swapping from glow to gas i wanted it for cost reason 17 bucks a gallon vs 3 bucks a gallon and 10 bucks for a glow plug to 2 bucks for spark plug the reason i stay clear from evolution gas motor is there plug is still pricey and i can almost buy 2 dle 20s for what one os 15 runs and im not knocking os ive ran there glow engines for years still running some now but i cant see a benefit for spending the extra cash

Today I had to change my original glow plug on my OS GGT-15 engine. I had roughly 30 flights on the engine when the glow plug failed. That is not bad in my humble opinion. I have had a number of small gas engines from other manufacturers but none of them come close to the OS GGT in my humble opinion. I am quite happy with my engine, it performs very well in my Escapade 61.

With that RPM I'd think this engine would be more a direct competitor for glow 4 strokes in the .70-.90 size range. Not that that's a problem, but it is different than what we're used to with a 2 stroke .60. I truly would love to hear of someone's experience with one of these on an SPA type plane since I'm planning to move up to a .60 size bird next year. I'm currently planning to use a Saito .91, but if this engine will match or exceed the performance I see no downsides to using the OS gasser.
The plane was plenty fast on a Zoar 13x8 9200rpms 13x10 Zinger at 8200rpms and this is only after several tanks of 50:1 gas mix.
The plane flew extremely well with more than enough power. I just need to get this pump issue fix then get it back in the air again.
notice where the fuel tank is, just in front of the servo tray. I also made it a tail dragger and saved 3.5oz by getting rid of the nose gear and linkage. Ground handles real good.
My only beef with OS on this is the price.... they take a bunch of hardware off, i.e. ignition components, and charge more.
The glow plug is about 12 bucks.... so whats up OS?

Good to hear. Since this thread started, 3 guys in my club (fwthunderbirds) have put this engine on SPA planes. Everybody likes it when it runs right. I think this engine will become the standard power plant for these planes in the next couple of years.

My point wasn't referring to the cost of the glow plug. I was refering to the the fact that they take the ignition off this engine and add a $12 glow plug and charge more for the package. Certainly the ignition components cost more then a glow plug.
Just saying...
Smooth FLying....

Does anyone know of a light weight muffler/can than can be used?
Not worried about the noise just trying to lighten the weight up some.
I'm Looking for a poweplant for my next project and that boat anchor of a muffler is whats keeping me.
Need the package to be close to weight as the 75 ax, which could be possible with a lighter can.

Note:
Do not use the pressure nipple, take it out and plug the hole. Gas exhaust will melt any line you hook up to it. Dont need it when using a pump.
