If the engine is tuned correctly a long time. Better than a season of flying

Yes! Right now there's 5" of snow on the ground, today's high temp is 31 deg.

Good news is I have some planes to work on.

Put the floats or skis on and fly !
As mentioned, a good quality plug should last several seasons. The cheap/chicom plugs ;...well , years ago I had one fail in short order and have never used them again.

I consider it common, if not mandatory practice to replace stock plugs with NGK's and smash the others with a hammer so as not to be tempted to use them as a spare

Yes it depends on the plug . I find the NGK last a long time . You can sort of get an idea of how long they can last by how long they last in your lawn mower . Often we are tempted to change them far more often than is nec . I keep a spare of each style in my tool box and almost never need to use one .

I don't think I've ever actually had a spark plug go bad. They can get burned up by running too lean, but other than that they are pretty durable. I replaced one in my mower once back in the '90's I think. I've had them get fouled with 2 stroke oil in my weed eater, but they'll clean up just fine if that happens. Our RC engines don't really ask more out of a spark plug than a weed wacker or chainsaw does, so I think it's safe to say they'll hold up for a good long time if the engine is tuned right.
