Suspending planes from ceilings
I was just wondering if anyone had any helpful tips or tricks regarding hanging 10-15 lb planes from ceilings. Specifically, I would like to know what type of cradle system looks and functions the best for supporting the fuselage.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Do you want to display the aircraft or store it? What type of ceiling do you have?
For storage, I have a drop ceiling and use a bungee cord with both ends attatched to the ceiling and looped around the tail feathers.

Thanks for the reply.
I was going to display two planes in a hobby shop recently opened by a friend of mine. So, to some extent, aesthetics are an issue. But foremost is the safety of the planes. The ceiling is dropped with plenty of heavy pipe above. I just wondered if anyone on the list has had experience with a particular material that is strong, can be used to form a supportive cradle, and is not too obtrusive to the eye. I'll think about the bungee material.
Thank you.

yes, from an aestetic standpoint bungees aren't the way to go. I have seen hangars made from pvc pipe, about 1 inch or 1 and a half pipe, with grey foam insulation around the pipe. The guy had it in two L shapes, one for each wing, with the bend in the L at the leading edge. He then had a cord running through the pvc, out the top and tied to the ceiling. Slickest setup I have seen. I've been wanting to do the same but haven't had the gumption yet.
Good Luck!

I bought some hangers from Hobby Lobby a few years ago. They are made from steel tubing with foar tubing slipped over them. Fifteen pounders are no sweat, but you can bend them to custom shapes with some muscle. Not cheap as I recall, but do the job and last forever...JIM
