What is Synthetic Fuel?
While I am aware of what Castor Oil is, does anyone know what a synthetic oil is made up of chemically.
I am interested in this subject as I blend my own fuel and want to study the subject further.
I suspect they are possibly poly glycols of some sort [&:] with a lube additive for corrosion prevention, bit I am currently just guessing.
Anyone got any insider information or can suggest any links. All most welcome!

RE: What is Synthetic Fuel?
Synthetic oil contains no petroleum products. A totally synthetic fuel contains no Castor as well. If you are looking for a recipe to make synthetic oil, I doubt you'll have the necessary facilities to make your own. If you are simply blending your own fuel, I believe Klotz synthetic 2-cycle oil is used by Sig in their fuels, probably others as well.

Stick. I am an industrial Chemist which has a slight advantage.
I a simply curious that all you see on the internet are statements about special blends of synthetics oils and additives.
While I am convinced the additives are some form of complexed polymer, I do not want to run any "risks" with my motors. Having some idea will help me identify the chemical family I need to investigate.
Bring it on folks!

Contact Klotz or Union Carbide, both manufacturers of synthetic oils. I am sure they will be very willing to pass on their oil constituents!!

RE: What is Synthetic Fuel?
Ed the Manufacturers will not share their formulations that easily.
What I do know is that the base constituent is Poly oxy alkyl (or alkylene) glycol ethers. Think of that next time you get a lung full of exhaust fumes [&:]
Now I know the generic family I am away!
Got the anti ware additive, got the anti oxidant.
Fantastic.
