I recently bought a few sets of plans of modern jets that are prop driven. One set is of an F-4 Phantom. I did not realize at the time that this plane called for a ducted fan....(DUH!!) I would like to know if it would be possible to install a prop engine? I understand balancing would change and the nose would have to be beefed up to hold the engine... Is this something that can be done.. or should I just forget these plans of a great airplane???
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks,
Chris

I am afraid that most of the fusalage structure would have to be redone. Yes what you want to do can be done. But it would be a lot of work. If you want to try it. I would suggest you get a couple of copies of the plan made. then redesign as needed using one of the copies. use the other copy as your building copy. I hope you can fix this problem. Great Planes does or used to have a propjet of the phantom. Maybe you can find one. Also try RCM,MAN and the AMA site. They have some propjet plans. Maybe you can find one there. Good luck.

Hello,
Thank you for your info on my phantom plans. I do have a prop driven ARF phantom from Lanier. But, I wanted to try my hand at building from a set of plans. After seeing what would be involved in converting to a prop, I think I will shelf these plans.
Thank you!!
