I have a Cox single piston engine on my little Control Line Airplane. And the engine refuses to start. It take me an hour, or in todays case 3 hours, to get it to start...if it ever does. Iv only had it since December, and it only has like 20 flights on it. Today i still havent got it to start and i was wondering if there was anyone who could help me a little? I dont know whats wrong with it.

Make sure you are getting a bright orange glow from the glow plug (you must take the glow plug head off to see this). Your igniter battery may be low or the glow plug may have burnt out. Are you getting some pops at all? If there is absolutely no popping, then it is probably the battery or glow plug. If it pops and runs a little, then it is probably something else.

What sort of fuel are you using and what is the nitro content?( needs to be around 15-25% )
What is the outside temperature and what sort of battery are you using for the glow driver?

I've found high nitro fuel to be the answer to most Cox starting problems. I used to hand flip them but bought a Norvel starter and have no trouble at all now. Checking the glowhead is always a good idea. They are notoriously not long lived. The little glow plug clip used by Cox can also be unreliable. The Cox starting kit used to be aove 30% nitro. Don't know if it still is.
