The ARF is a VF Edge 540 66". CA hinges are supplied, but I have heard bad stories about using CA hinges on such extreme aerobatic models. Other choices are pinned hinges and hinge-points. I would like to hear some opinions on which hinges would be best for this type model and why. Thanks

When I do a review of a plane this size and it comes with CA hinges, I use them because if they supply them, SOMEBODY'S going to use them. And so far, I've never had a problem with them.
That said, personally, if I were building the same size model for myself (and it were a 120 size or larger) I would use Hinge Points.

CA hinges on that size model are fine if installed correctly, that's the key, correct installation. Any type of hinge that is not correctly installed can fail.

CA hinges are usually pretty good. As Primodos stated, if the plane is an EXTREME PLANE using a 1.20 or larger 2 stroke, I would go with a pinned hinge or hinge points.
The problem is MOST people do not know the PROPER way to install a CA hinge. The proper way to install them is to drill a small hole in the center of the hinge slot. Then you put the CA hinges in place and flex the surface. Apply 3 - 4 drops of THIN CA to EACH SIDE of the hinge. The hole is the secret. It allows the CA to penetrate the wood AND hinge completely. Without the hole you frequently do not get complete penetration of the CA.

I think the hole is important too, but not nearly as important as flexing the hinge MORE than it will move in flight BEFORE adding the CA.
It's all spelled out nicely right here:
