Default power panel electronics

please do you know which type of electronic is use for supply glow plug heat on tower (lxacw8), hobbico (lxacw7), duratrax (lxhca1), hobbico micro (lxwx80) and ofna (lxhze5) power panel.
any of you have some schematics about this.

thanks

I didn't want to go to the garage and remove my power panel so I could look at the elecctronics. So, I did the next best thing, Google. The following web site has many interesting projects, including a really simple adjustable glow driver.

They are all pretty much the same, just an oscillator with an adjustable pulse width used to turn on a power FET or a power transistor for about 10 milliseconds every 100 milliseconds.

Ok Rodney, thanks for reply. But how this power panel measure current with pulsed source ? Current must be higher then you see on analog amp meter. Or in this case is only what we need is if plug pull some of current or not.

Hi Realdo, my power panel is about 20 years old. They are so simple that it really does not matter which one you buy, or whether you make your own. Actually, I wish I had made my own, it could be much smaller.

I don't pay much attention to the meter other than watching it to confirm that the glow plug is connected and not dead. When I put a new plug in the engine I test it first. At the same time I look at how bright it is glowing and adjust the glow driver output to make it a nice bright orange, but not so bright that it burns out the glow plug.

Realdo, the power panel connect 12 volts to the plug for about 10 milliseconds then nothing for the next 90 milliseconds for an average of about 1.2 volts. The current measurement can not be made with a conventional ammeter, only by a true averaging meter (a very rare animal). The peak current pulse is quite high (roughly 10 times the average current). That is why you can blow out a glow plug using the power panel when you turn the gain (pulse width adjustment) to high. If you have a friend with a scope or access to an electonics lab, it is interesting to look at the wave form accross the plug.

Ok, thanks Rodney.
I still learn about all things about rc and this or other questions from me is quite stupid for people who is in this hobby so long. When is something unknown again i will ask.

Thanks again to you and for all people on rcuniverse.
