I currently have a Hobbico 90 Torque Master Engine starter mounted on a matching Hobbico Power Core; This worked fine on the 40 size trainer I had and the 53 Irvine mounted on a H9 Twist I now have; dosen't work all that great on the 90 RCV 4 Stroke I run in another plane; seems like the battery doesn't have enough power; any suggestions, or should I just move up to the Hobbico 180 Torque Master Starter and mount it on the power core? Thanks

I have a Magnum geared starter (similar to the Kavan unit) with two 7.2 volt 3000mah car packs wired in series. So far it has worked well with everything I have tried including 1.80 Saito ,R325 5-cyl Saito and a 1.80 MOKI. It is totally portable and very light weight.
Works for me.

This will be my next starter...

I have seen #6 in action, turning over ys140's and 160dz's, even a moki 2.10 with ease.

dasintex,
Could be that your battery can't supply enough amps. I have a Deluxe Hobbico (that's what it was called back then) that is about 20 years old and it starts a Saito 1.00 with no problem. I power it with a small 12v motorcycle battery. One thing to note, most 4-strokes have to be spun backward until it bumps compression or the starter won't turn it over. The 90 RCV has an adapter for starting doesn't it? I'm sure you're not, but that engine would be very tough to start from the spinner as most engines are normally started.

There are 2 styles of RCV engines; the one I have is the CD series; does not need adapter; starts like normal 4Strokes using the spinner; the starter I have works for awhile after the battery is freshly charged but runs the battery down quick; I'm thinking a geared starter would do the trick!

The Sullivan Dynatron will cost you $63 but it will be the last money you spend on a starter .
It gives you a 340 tork with 12v battery and 680 with a 24v. Same size as any regular hi tork starter but will start a 50cc gasser with ease. Check it out befor you decide!

I second the Dynatron. Couple it with their battery pack with some 3000 mha nicads and you have a very powerful starter. I use it every Sat. & Sun. for starting my planes pluse the clubs trainers and I can, in the warm months, get a couple of weeks our of a charge. I can start my Brisson 4.8 twin with it when it gets cranky.
