Default JR servo question?

Does anyone know about JR servo NES-L4001 coreless servos. I just bought 4 NIB from a X rc flyer for $50. I can not get any information on the "coreless ". The specs are on the boxes so I have them. The boxes are from a place called Circus Hobbies.
Thanks!
Howard

Howard,
The 4000 series servos are an old servo Around the 80's if I remember. They are very good servos. High speed if I remember. They were the equal to todays digital in there day. Why do you need to know adout "coreless" They work and work very well.

Cheers

I was flying and a guy walked up and told me he had lots of RC stuff for sale. He said he's sight was gone. All of his stuff was very old. I bought a Hitec Flash 5 radio set up complete and the 4 servos. His name is Dell I believe.

I wanted to know what coreless means becaues they go into an airplane that I wish to keep control of.
Thanks!

Coreless is the way the servo moter is set up internally and it works very well with a lot of speed and power. I think just a fancy name for an electric motor. Instead of the usual motor setup the armiture is a drum instead of a solid core. The core is the magnet and the armiture is a copper windind. see photos In the second photo, the shaft in the center of the magnet is conected to the drum and is the output shaft of the motor.

Cheers

very much like a brushless motor, except the core isn't a permenant magnet. Since both magnets are electo-magnets, the servo has to be on to have any drag on the control surface. Typically, with coreless servos, if they are turned off, there is very little opposition to moving a control surface.

Bill Bennett, who started the Tournament of Champions, was associated with Circus Circus Casino, and had a hobby distributorship called Circus Hobbies that imported MK, Webra, and JR. Very high quality operation. The casino sponsored the early TOC events. Hanno Prettner of Austria won most of the early ones. Hanno was one of the early 3D style flyers-the TOC had a free style event also. Bill has sadly passed away. He was a terrific promoter. Circus must have closed up shop in the early nineties.

2slow,
The brushless still has the windings rapped around an iron core. The coreless does not. The copper windings that you see in the photos is the bit that turns attached to the shaft that goes up the center of the magnet, the magnet is fixed in the motor can.

GREAT! Thank you much! All of you!
The photo spread was realy nice of you Ghost!
I think I may use these in a airplane I just ordered a set of plans for. It's called a Mud Duck made out of foam core. The airplane is so ugly it's cute! And they are big airplane and I like that! Also I wanted to have the Mud Duck to fly off the beach down in Texas this winter.
