Vacuum bagging is used to keep your resin impregnated cloth in intimate contact with the plug, or wing form, while the resin sets up. This leaves a smooth, bubble free, (and if you have smoothed things out properly) wrinkle free finished product.

Vacuum bagging also applies an enormous amount of even pressure to bond wing skins to foam. It is real easy to compress a foam core to the point of being unusable if you do not monitor the vacuum carefully.

I'm curious about this also. I've heard of it on here, but can anyone provide the basics of "How to" on this subject. I'm fixing to sheet the wings for a pair of King Kobras and would like to know how it's done.

In a nutshell, here is what is involved.

A vacuum source is needed, like an old refrigerator compressor. A reservoir is needed to prevent the compressor from cycling too much. You will need an adjustable vacuum switch to accurately control the amount of vacuum to apply. The vacuum switch is what turns the compressor on and off. The wing is enclosed in a polyethylene bag that is completely sealed except for the vacuum line connection.

here are some web sites

This was a much simplified explanation, as you will see when you visit these web sites.
