Default Field box plans

Hi. Does anyone have a set of plans in DFX or DWG format for a field box that they would care to share?

Thanks,
Larry

It's easier to figure out what kind of set up you want for a field box, draw up plans and then just buy the wood and build it. I got a kit and is not big enough or exactly what I wanted. I am going to build a second one this winter for my giant scale gas airplane that will be much bigger and have at least three drawers in it and have one of them seperated into cubes for parts. Take a try at doing it yourself, when your finished, you will be happier with it. Make sure you fuel proof it inside and out!

I have one of the small Sig field boxes and really like it. You might want to check it out.

This is what I got,it's a kit but if you are going to buy plywood it might not be worth it,unless you want something custom or bigger.http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXL416&P=0

I designed and built this field box in 1972 when I learned to fly R/C. It is made of about .032 thick steel sheet metal that I had fabricated at a sheet metal shop and I welded it together. It is designed to fit on the front passenger floor of a small car. It is very compact and sturdy; it serves as a stool. I have two 1/4 diameter rods that screw into the top and are bent into saddles to hold the plane if desired. I no longer use that feature since our field uses wooden Engine Starting Safety Stands. About every 20 years or so I have to repaint my field box. You can make up your own dimensions from the drawings since I no longer have the plans.

I like the field box plans you posted, and am busy drawing them with CADsoftware, but am struggling to make the diagrams out?

Do you have these in a different scale or format? I can't make some of the dimensions out when I print the images?

I can post the CAD plans when I have finished if you want?

Best wishes from the SW of the UK

I know this is most likely not what your looking for but it works great for me and most people who see it like it. I picked this up at home depot one day, it was listed around 28.00 i think and it had a busted handle so they sold it to me at there cost of 9.00 it some times is a bit bulky but it has everything in it i could ever need, it will even hold my days lunch while flying.

Thanks very much - I have done my CADdrawing now, the only thing I cannot make out is around the starter area - looks like the part with the cutout is designed to 'hang'
the starter off, with it being removed from the gap in the side, but I cannot understand why there is a base, looks like this means there is some boxed in 'dead space'
below this base and behind the starter? (viewing the box from the side)

I'll going to try drawing a 3D model of the flight box to show what I mean, but this might take me a while <g>

Might have to mock this up in paper/cardboard to work out where each piece goes

Best wishes

Chris

Thanks very much Scott - I am in the UK and we do not have HomeDepot here, but I have been looking at toolboxes that look similar

I would prefer to have a go myself as I learn what works and what doesn't and can alter it if I knock it up out of ply (same reason I don't like
ARTFkits, for me half the pleasure is in the build!)

I have spent some time today redrawing the images posted by one of your countrymen a few posts back (KennyRach)and when I have built this
and cleaned the CAD files up a bit (ie corrected the errors!)I will post them for others to look at

Best wishes

Chris

I used to use a home-made wooden field box similar to the ones people have suggested - I made mine too heavy but live and learn. However, I have switched to using a wheeled multi-drawer tool box like the one Scott42 has suggested because I can carry everything in it, and power panels are pretty much useless these days now that glo igniters are rechargable and starters can be fitted with rechargeable batteries as well. My e-power birds use stand-alone chargers.

Since you are in the UK, here is a UK link for the one I use: [link=http://www.stanleytools.co.uk/product/147616]http://www.stanleytools.co.uk/product/147616[/link]. Much easier to move from the van to the pits, especially when the parking is a long way off!
