I have the aeroworks 60/90 edge 540 with dual servos installed in the tail. I need a new radio, and would rather program the reverse on the servo than get one of those lil switch boxes with a y cord. what radios will have the correct mix option that i need? what is that mix called is it dual elevator? I have been away from r/c aircraft for 5 years and i cant remember anything. the hobby has changed so much. and my local hobby shop has no clue either. thank you. Matt

Hi Matt,
Any 7 channel or more Futaba, Hitec or JR radio will do what you want.
It is just a matter of preferance.
I fly with a Futaba 9CHP. It took me 3 years to learn all of the radios functions.
It is an incredibly versatile radio. But, Futaba instruction manuals are really poor!
Hitec and JR both have better manuals.
I want a new radio that has more capabilities than the 9CHP.
I know i am going to spend at least $1200.00.
I am considering switching to JR for two reasons.
1. The JR manuals are better.
2. The 10X has a metal case, NICE!. The Futaba 12MZ still has a cheezy plastic case. Glow fuel residue ruined the finish on my 9CHP.
I haven't made a final decision. I really like the capabilities of the Futaba 12MZ. But, I don't want to spend years learning another radio.
Oh well, it's a tough decision!

Get yourself a 9Cap Futaba if you want to go with Futaba. I love mine, and it's very easy to set up once you learn the programming 'language'.

The Futaba 7C does NOT have mixing for dual elevator servos. You can program it, but the trim will only work on the master half, so that function is useless. I have a friends 7 channel Hitec, but have not come across any provisions for dual elvator servos in that manual either (yet).

By slaving Ch. 7 to elevator, I had tailerons. The Ch. 7 reverse setting and sub trim took care of trimming the slave half. The only problem was servo speeds. The right elevator servo moved slightly faster than the left. Luckily, I had enough spare servos and was able to match a pair.
Even the Hitec Optic 6 has dual elevator capabilities.
I too love my 9CHP. It is easy to do basic airplane programming. But, when you get into really complex mixes, it can get overwhelming.
My problem with Futaba is their manuals. NOT their radios. I don't think you can buy a more versatile radio than the 9C for the money.
When I was trying to set up flaperons on a 3 position switch so that they operate in unison with the elevator in one position, off in another position and travel opposite the elevator in the last position, and keep the ailerons functioning, I nearly went crazy! I knew the radio could do it. But, NO ONE could tell me how to do it and the manual was useless.
I figured it out. It took weeks of experimenting! Anyone out there care to guess how to program that?

This can easily be done with the JR 6102 or the Futaba 6Txas

I am pretty sure neither of these radios have split channel elevator capability as a standard mix. You would have to put the elevator servos on a Y cable and could not independently trim them from the radio.
The Futaba 9C, 12Z, 14 MZ can do it. The JR 9303 and 10X can as well. Not sure of others but I would bet the airtronics Stylus can do it and would expect the Royal Evo 9 and 12 can too.
Of all of these the 9C woudl be the lowest priced.

Take a look at ( www.polkshobby.com ) the Tracker will do what you are looking for and more. I have two of these TX's, work great, can't beat the price.

the problem with the tracker when setting up dual elevators is you can make them work but they have to be assigned to a switch, and we know this is not at all what we want (instant crash switch) what we need to be able to do is null a switch or not have to asign the p-mix to a switch in the first place

I ran into this problem while setting up my Funtana 90. An option is to use a Y harness, and run 1 Futaba servo, and 1 Hitec servo. The Hitec servo rotates in the opposite direction as the Futaba, and the Hitec is compatible with your Futaba rx. Just another option .... Greg

The point of the discssion is to identify a radio that can do the split aileron without using a Y cable.
one of the benefits of doing this in the radio is that radios with this mix typically also offer the ailevator mix which allows you tohave the elevators follow the ailerons for smoother/faster rolls in patterns.

You can do it with a JR8103 is you use EITHER P-Mix 5 or P-Mix 6. Both of these mixes will have a "trim include" function automatically built in. When you mix 2 chanels--they both respond to trim inputs.
Go to P-Mix 6
Set ELEV as the Master and GEAR as the Slave
Hit the select button to move the arrow / cursor down to the mix rate
Move your elevator stick UP (down elevator input)
Push the + button to set the mix rate at 100%
Pull your elevator stick back (up elevator input)
Push the + button to set the mix at 100%
Now you need to disable the GEAR switch on the top left of the TX or it will make your elevator move if you accidentally hit the switch.
Simple:
Go to Travel Adjustment
Select the GEAR
Set travel to 0%
Now flip the Gear switch on the TX to the other position
Set travel to 0%
Your almost done.
You need to use Sub-Trims to fine tune the center of the servo at neutral. Just go into your Sub-Trim menu and use the + or - buttons to center up the servo at neutral.
Go fly.
6102 won't do it. 652 won't do it. The new Spectrum 7 channel WILL do it. I am not positively sure about the 7202, but I think it will do it.

bigdarylg, Go to Track 1 and in SW Position make it "Active Down" That way you can assign a mix without a switch for the elevator servos. With Active up you can't. I just mixed channel 7 to channel 2 with a SMIX-1 and SW:[N]
If you are using channels 2 and 7 you will need to use the channel 7 knob for you trim. That would be the knob on the right top. I think you can also use 2 and 6 then you would trim with the left knob. This would work better because you can change your rate adjust and make it less sensitive. On channel 7 you can't. Now if you use channel 6 then you can't have flaperons.

thanks bob, polks needs to fix things so we can either have an always on mix or we can null a switch so we can use the mixes this radio is capable of. I'am going to try to talk to them about it asap.I'll report back when i know something

Daryl, the POLKS radio is always on if you don't select a switch. If it doesn't work with the S mix, then do it with the P mix. And all you have to do is slave one to the other. Then reverse the one thats turning the wrong way. Also, if you want to run both elevator servos off the same channel, use a y lead and just turn the horn on one the other way. I have a giant aeromaster and the instructions said the get a "reversed" servo. I scratched my head and just turned the servo horn 180 degrees and presto! No problem.
