Lean you will burn a lot less fuel because after a few flights you will burn up your engine and it wont run any more.

Rich puts more fuel into the mixture so it will use more. Thats why when the engine is really rich its spitting out lots of fuel.

I wouldnt lean out an engine to save fuel.

Also consider that a properly tuned engine usually means a properly lubed engine since the fuel has oil in it for the internals.
Cheers.

G'day Mate,
Not only does the oil lubricate the engine, but it takes away most of the heat generated by said engine, so if run too lean, it will get hotter, & not have the oil content to remove the heat.

Now there is one no-nonsense piece of advice!

Good one Gringo!

It takes away heat, but far from most of it.

I was wondering if someone was going to catch that and start the oil-does/does not-take-away-heat-from-the-glow-engine-debate [X(]

Some may and completely ignore the fact that most of the heat goes out the exhaust as partially burned fuel and hot gas.
