Default Elevator servos going different ways

Hi.
I have just bought the QQ Yak 54 (73") and got the spektrum DX7 and the standard servos that come with it, i have set it all up but the elevators are going the wrong way (one goes up while one goes down), i have these plugged into a Y-lead. Is there any possible way to reverse 1 servo and keep the other as it is so they both move the right way, without buying a servo programming 'thing', just by using my transmitter?
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Josh

With a Y connector, both servos are moving in the same direction - when you have one on each side of a plane as you do on your Yak, one elevator goes up and one goes down. To use a Y connector and make it work, you will need a Y connector that has a servo reverser built in - MPI makes one. I prefer to run each elevator half to a separate channel and mix them with the TX - and reverse one servo within the TX programming. I am not familiar with your radio - check it out - that may be the easist solution. There are programmable digitial servos, but I am assuming you are not using those.

. Does it have to be programmable servos to do that? im not sure what mine are they are just standard digital ones which came with the Spektrum set

You got it. One arm pointing up and one arm pointing down. You MAY need to remake one of the pushrods.

If, for what ever reason, you can not do a one servo arm up and the other down, pull one of the servos and reverse the servo - if the output shaft on one side is pointing forward, then the other one should point to the rear of the plane.

G'day Mate,
Get rid of the Y lead, use 2 servo extensions, plug the right elevator into "ELEV", & the left into "AUX2", use mix #5, trim include, mix the two channels together, & you can change the direction of the servos, adjust each with sub trim, fine tune your throws, & have full control over your elevator setup, that "Y" leads will never give you.
For more detail on mixing for dual elevators see here, http://www.rcaerobats.net/
Scroll down to the Spektrum DX7 Radio page, & look for dual aileron & elevator setup.

Surely this won't change the direction the servo arms are moving?

It won't change the direction the arms move relative to the servo.
Changing the servo around in the servo tray does nothing to which way the servo arm rotates. But it will point the arm 180degrees from the direction it was pointing. Which is more easily accomplished by simply changing the arm on the servo. Reversing the servo in it's tray does nothing more than swapping the arm around 180degrees on the output shaft does, other than moving the output shaft closer or farther from the surface you want to control. If you think it won't have any effect on this problem, you're right.

Trade one of the servos with a JR servo.
